Ah....a complaints forum. A place I can finally call home. So a question for whoever responds here.

The political forums do you guys have a set policy regarding what you want to do with those forums? Or is it managed on an ad hoc basis?

The reason I ask is that there have been a consider increase in really really reallly stupid posts. Ban all secular schools and the like. Seriously it is nothing bit a tit for tat thread that serves no intellectual purpose and frankly is not there for a serious discussion.

Its just an annoying thread that people can respond to saying "religion is bad" or "secularism is bad".

What do you plan on doing with these threads that are nothing more than a cesspool of stupidity and serve no intellectual purpose.

I share your pain CM. The quality of content in political and religious forums have gone down, no doubt. Maybe it’s a reflection of the current generation who either does not give a crap about anything or who does not give a crap what you have to tell them. Anyway, GS does not have any political or religious agenda or gearing policy. It’s all based and produced on the users’ contributions. We are here to see that the mudslinging and crap hitting the fan is controlled (preferably diminished).

Mindset of members reflects the current political state of Pakistan. That keeps changing (deteriorating is the proper word) so does the thought process and tone of the posters in those forums. When the change becomes too obvious, we have to modify our policy at micro level to keep a hold on those of forums. GS's macro policy about PA is always the same and is in writing.

If I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion, the problem as you said is the new generation (which I am a part of considering the age of you two ) do not respect law and order unless they are beat on the head with it repeatedly.

If you set up a no tolerance shut up if you do something stupid policy and enforce it religiously, you should see some change. No offense intended but I think you guys back down a little too quickly when it comes to whining from idiotic members.

Members who do not post anything of value should have their threads locked and inform them that they are being *****es and that they should know better.

A heavy handed approach would work in the case of some idiots. In the case of others you just keep banning them or beating them.

If nuts type members bring MQM in each line and bash Mushrraf for every thing, then who can expect any decest and sensible debate ?
I have ponited this to admins via 'bad post report' million times but no action is taken and now I have seen many members are left already or just are not posting against these stone walls...

CM: The guidelines and policies in place allow for fluid adoptation of each new situation. And the moderators do their best to minimize sourcless/rumorous/unproductive discussion(s) as much as possible. With changing current events, you're likely to see that reflect on attitude or overall discussion atmosphere as well. Where there are those who seek or promote a certain aspect of things, there will surely be those who raise an opinion that is opposite. Tit for tat sometimes, yes. However other times it can produce healthy discussion. The idea is to facilitate members and allow them to discuss what they want to discuss within the policy framework, but when it gets out of hand, proper action is always taken. Your input is extremely important, so please continue to share with us and possible steps will be taken to accommodate it. Whenever there are changes made to the current policy, those changes usually come from member feedback and prior situational knowledge. So, if the need arises the policy can be refreshed/renewed/extended/shrunken, whatever maybe necessary for new circumstances.

ATA: My apologies that you feel no action of your preference was taken. But please know that reported posts do not go ignored. Sometimes it might take a little time to get to the requests, and after review action may or may not be taken. All reported posts are received, and they're given appropriate priority. Please continue to contribute in your own way, and keep the healthy discussion atmosphere alive.

Also on the note of threads that are opened on a more personal basis (tit for tat) rather than to sincerely discuss an issue, will usually lose momentum quicker and will die down. It's a natural process.

Spam Threads are usually locked though. Spam Thread would be where a user just uses that thread to compile articles/resources without much discussion at all.

No offense Teggy but there are very few intellectual threads in PA. I frankly like the one "secularism and shariah" but its one of those rare few threads where you get some discussion going.

A few simple questions:

1. Why do you guys allow tit for tat threads when you know they are just that. The thread to shut down secular schools was Beavis and Butthead stupid. And that is saying a lot. It obviously didn't produce any significant discussion just random stupidity.

2. Why are mods allowed to moderate threads they participate in? Its an issue of transparency and moral ethics in my case. When I have moderated other forums, it was an understood principle that if a moderate was involved in a debate he would not edit anything in that thread and someone else would. Why hasn't that been set up?

3. Why are threads that serve only a specific agenda which is political in nature, and not for substantive discussions allowed to flourish in PA?

I'll address them accordingly:

1. Members would claim moderators are allowing one side of the opinion, while barring the other side. So as long as it is within the forum guidelines and doesn't violate any policy, it is allowed to thrive and survive.

2. Generally moderators refrain from moderating the threads/discussions they participate in. We practice the same principle that you've mentioned. There may be some cases where a moderator does take some action in a thread that he was participating in, but that happens if the situation requires immediate attention and no other co-moderators are around. It's not usual for that to happen, but it has happened before and can happen if the need arises. In either case, the team is aware of actions taken and there is a followup on it.

3. If you could elaborate a bit more, i'd be happy to address that. Are you saying that any topics which are not political in nature, are not entertained in Pakistan Affairs? If so, then 1. I don't think that is true. While a large majority of what you see are threads of political nature, there are others which pertain to social issues as well. 2. Some threads might be better suited for other sub-forums that address a specific type of discussion, so thread maybe moved from time to time.

On the last point, if you have any specific examples or suggestions please do share. Would love to know your perspective on it.

1. Like I said earlier I think you guys give into whining and *****ing way to easily. So what if one member claims something retarded. Half of us are smart enough to know who is just being a dick and who has a valid the point. The other half realise it by reading the thread.

2. I am not going to point fingers at any specific moderators. Rather I have seen it happen on 3 occasions with 3 different moderators. A debate on such issue or what not. And then 20 minutes later you see the guys post editted by the same moderator partaking in the discussion. If you really wish examples, I can dig up a few over the course of the week.

3. This is in reference to those "let me *****" about something thread. The recent ones link to the killing of an Ahmadi professor. A crime no doubt. But nobody posts when any other professor dies or any other average person is attacked. His status as a minority is the reason why the thread is posted with a very specific agenda.

Or its like the threads where people post negative stuff just to get a rise out of members. There is no real emphasis on the forums about supporting your claims or statements.

Basically a person's opinion is valid regardless of the facts. It would be great if something could be done that one can not post bull**** and general stupidity and get away with it.

Teggy thanks for your kind and sweet reply! Well either I dont understand or you! It could be because of reason that mostly are MQM and Musharaf haters and gladly accept the filth at GS!

anyway like I said I do report to keep the envirnment clean and healthy but from your side it is not appreciated! forget about the past simply look at following which were already reported bad but no action is taken and You expect me to continue posting?

Filth against MQM/Altaf and Mushrraf that was purposely left even after reporting: These are just an example, you can find million of hate on GS like this: This is how we give respect to our former Cheif and President infront of world!

hahah! dude, chill out, I know you love Altaf bhai, now dont start crying again because you mentioned that several times, but you seem to be forgetting the language you've been using against Imran Khan or nawaz, i.e. the leader you dont like... How were you cleaning the 'environment' then?

Quote:
What ever written on the streets of Karachi, that is also a Universal truth, while Zani khan was capable of producing najaiz kids, he would have done few more, at least they can give some votes in future..

and about the what Altaf did, your God Khan is trying to bring him to justice,
And here is a gem from you about Nawaz Sharif:

Now I dont mind all that, but stop whining like a baby when someone else does the same thing, the only difference being them targeting the leader you love the most. If you can call nawaz a ganja lohar, what qualms do you have about me calling altaf a ganja mota?I didnt even report your post, though you reported mine! lol Take it eaasy and try to have fun here like I do. Some mysterious multinicking MQM bhaijaan even PMed me a death threat for criticizing 'bhai' once.

p.s. are you going to condemn the producers and directors of the four man show because they ridicule musharraf too? chill out dude, these are political figures, not some holy gods! And as for you demanding respect for our 'ex president', maybe after you start showing respect for former prime ministers or former national hero cricketers or the chief justice of pakistan perhaps?

^^ i think both you and spock have some serious differences, therefore, my suggestion is to either, exchange numbers and eat each others brains off on the Phone or create some private chat, where both of you can curse each other out Privately.
