Okie, here's something about Mac from my personal experience. I have been an avid Mac user for the past 12 years. Great operating system in terms of sophistication and stability, but I am not too convinced about the solidity of Mac's hardware anymore. Especially, when they come up with major upgrades.
I got a G-5, couple of months after it was released. It was a brand new 64-bit processor technology. Within the next 4 months, both CPUs and the logic board were toast. Both were replaced under Apple's warranty. But, the problem still remained, and I had to put up with the Apple's, rightfully one of the world's worst, customer support. It turned out that both stacks of RAM were also gone. By that time I had ran out of warranty. I felt like junking my computer for scrapped Aluminum.
Recently, I met a developer who had bought the Intel based Powerbook. His computer's hard-drive was gone within 1 month after purchasing. Another developer I know is also having various hardware problems with his Intel based Powerbook. It seems like Apple is only after making quick bucks now by selling the most lousiest machines.
The Mac OSX is solid as a rock- main reason why I am still an Apple user. But, the hardware sucks BIG time...if you are planning to buy, then I would suggest to wait for few months and find out more about the durability of the Intel based hardware..

Thanks Outy, that was informative. Guess I'll just have to make use of the warranty if the need arises.

Oh I wouldn't worry about it. As long as msn works she should be fine. And the baRi screen actually helps. That way she can juggle between 23423 msn windows and become a bara aadmi one day. I say go for it
