i'm going to do this in an hrs time, but what can i use to backup all my apps, i have office, corel, adobe?

If you format the partition (which is a part of OS installation), then you will not have any of the applications left.

However... Windows installation program offers an alternative way, in which you overwrite the older installation (more like repair). In that case you will not have to re-install all the applications. There might be few applications which will still require a re-installation.

since i have bugs galore, i am going to do a clean sweep and format my hd, how do i format my hard drive, go to run mode and tpye format c:\

I was just trying to help.

I must have misunderstood, i thought he wasn't getting boot option. I had a similar issue as well, which is why i made those threads "Make bootable CD/DVD"...

^ Teggy just noticed one thing... Did you say yuo were trying to install VISTA & Ubuntu on the same drive or you made partitions?

Let the XP installation program take care of that. But remember everything will be lost after you have done it. I hope you have already backed up your important data.

I used the Shrink option from within disk management. So what i have at the moment is C: 222GB NTFS Healthy, and 10.81GB Unallocated.

So presumably, when i boot with ubuntu cd, and begin to install, i should see the 10.81GB as an unused partition!? (correct?)

me again. so all was well i made a bootable cd as told by xeno and inserted the disc and rebooted. the stupid things wont read the bootable disc, i went on to explorer and the files which i know are there are not showing the disc's contents. i now think i have a cd driver issue, so went onto sony support site to see if i can get the driver, no.

what to do?

put same CD into ur Bros PC and verify k is it bootable or not

so insert the disc and restart the comp right, what should i be seeing if the cd is bootable, a prompt perhaps?
