Yes, the runner probably made the crucial difference especially since the game was played in the hot & humid Chennai.
However, Anwar still played a great knock

Highlight of the day....
PTSD committee met today and decided that:
- Pakistan should not be declared the WC winners because they didn't beat India. From next time even if India gets knocked out of the competition, they should be given the opportunity to play the winner of the final.
- Saeed Anwar record should not be consided an official one since his runner helped him. Not only that he was also holding Saeed Anwar's bat while he hit 22 fours and 5 sixes.
you guys are hilarious

Considering that 51 out of Anwar's 194 runs were run by Shahid Afridi, I really don't see how it even comes close to Sir Viv Richards' 189 N.O. or even Matthew Hayden's 181
Nevertheless, he did hit 22 fours & 5 sixes for a grand total of 118 runs

Awesome!!!
What's next? Aaqib Javed's 7-37 against India was also an oridinary performance since there was nothing special in his bowling. It was the bats which Indian batsmen were using with big holes.
Keep'em coming. This is getting funnier and more funnier

Nothing against Aaqib Javed's performance. He took those wickets "on his own" with no help from his team mates
Anyways, as an earlier poster said ICC has recognized Saeed Anwar's knock as the official record so we have to live with that

you guys have to remember the tournament to realize why that innings still hurts Indians.
It was the Independence cricket tournament marking 50 years of creation of India
That innings kicked India out of the Independence cup.
given the heat & humidity Saeed can ask for a runner if he feels "ill" according to the laws of cricket.
" If the umpires are satisfied that a player has been injured or become ill after the nomination of the players, they shall allow that player to have a runner when batting.
Any injury or illness that occurs at any time after the nomination of the players until the conclusion of the match shall be allowable, irrespective of whether play is in progress or not.
The umpires shall have discretion, for other wholly acceptable reasons, to allow a runner for a batsman, at the start of the match or at any subsequent time."

khan saab, why are you getting all riled up. You have won then bask in that glory. But somehow 2007 t20 Wc still hurts some people I guess. Not beating India and India getting the WC by defeating Pakistan. Wow that was a dream cup to win for Pakistan, but you lost it.

Viny... none of the Pakistanis here started discussing our awesome T20 victory yesterday. It was you who did that so this tells who is feeling the pain.

Saeed's record is very difficult to break. You have to face half of the inning yourself (Saeed faced 148 deliveries out of 300 total deliveries). You have to not only play fast enough, but make sure you dont lose your wicket in the process. It gets tougher and tougher as you reach the last of the overs.

^That's understood
But the question is who can break?
This can be broken. Players have come close to it or have played some brilliant innings, in the form of breaking this record.

But no one has been able to break it for 12 years. Getting closer is not enough. Reach 197 then talk.
