Cool

Agreed. Rana for Asif was a bad decision but Asif might have also gone for some runs during the batting powerplay. 233 was simply not a good enough total. Needed something like 280+

He opened the bowling and put pressure on Pakistan by giving away 30 runs in the first 4 overs.

What si the need for playing naveed when he have asif and Razzaq. both are miles ahead of him except that they are not as friendly with Younis as Naveed.

For all his issues, Asif is a strike bowler who gets wickets...so does Shoaib Akhter. Gul needs to be told we expect more of him...otherwise Pakistan's first choice attack should be - when fit - Shoaib Akhter, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif..with Gul carrying drinks..

As for Rana, having the Captain as one of your best buddies doesent hurt....
yep,Iagree about gul ..

rana will be dropped for good....he was just filling the gap…...but if u really need to fill the gap, what is wrong with Rao....consistent line and length, great outswinger....decent pace...

but gul is a bigger problem…..i said this in my post after India's match as well…and I will just copy paste from there:

“But all is not well with Pakistani cricket team. Umar Gul was absolutely a piece of crap today. I mean absolutely crap! he bowled really bad against Sri Lanka in test matches and 50 over matches as well... what is wrong with him? The reason I sound little frustrated is because it is beyond my comprehension that how come a bowler who bowled so many good yorkers and unplayable balls amid reverse wing in 20/20 worldcup becomes such an ordinary proposition in test cricket and 50 over matches? ....May be bowling yorkers requires some extra pace as well as immense concentration and rhythm and it is easier for bowlers to maintain that level of stamina and concentration for 4 overs vs 10 overs but then that is the difference between ultimate greatness and sporadic brilliance . Waqar Younis bowled yorkers and produced reverse swing at will in all forms of cricket for almost 10 years non-stop (1989 – 1997)”

Rana's radar was off today, but the decision to play him was justified based on his performance in the past couple of matches, where he had bowled really well at the death. Today it was Rana and Gul at the end who effectively finished the game for us, but even then Gul conceded more runs in the last over than Rana did even with his two no-balls.

This is not hindsight. I have said this right through this tournament.

OK i am done venting.
Too harsh ..
I m not a fan his bowling or batting when u have Asif sitting on bench there is no place for rana... but i m sure u had a different veiw of him when he was throwing wickets around in india under inzi.. but i would admit it was good come back after ICL...

Once in a while he bowls a decent spell...but look at his economy rate. You can almost bet Rana will bowl no balls, give free hits, and at least every over produce one if not two boundry balls.

Gul is also the culprit in this case...

But Rana's other issue is that he was selected ahead of Razzaq. Between Razzaq and Rana, Razzaq is easily the better batsman and a far more affective bowler.

Rana got into the team because him and Younis are old buddies which is a pity...anyway now that Asif is back hopefully Rana will be back to his ICL buddies.

He did and he will keep on doing that once in a while in future too but he can not be included at cost of Asif. Its just too much price to pay. He is a good bench strength though

True. I wonder if that has to do with too much of t20. Rana bowls well at death overs. I think to some extent rana and gul have been corrupted by the t20 format. They bowl line that restrict scoring. But if the batsmen can wait a little and milk singles in between, the bowlers get frustrated and try variation which lead to bad lengths costing boundaries.
