CHENNAI: Huma Akram, wife of former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram, died at the Apollo Hospital here Sunday morning after battling for life for
the past five days.

According to hospital officials, Huma breathed her last around 9.45 a.m.

Huma was suffering from sepsis (an inflammation of several tissues, including blood leading to kidney failure) and was admitted to Apollo Hospital Tuesday after developing complications mid-air while on her way to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore from Pakistan.

She was accompanied by Wasim Akram.

At Apollo Hospital, she was in the intensive care unit (ICU) since then and died Sunday without regaining consciousness.

Arrangements are being made to take her body back to Pakistan, the sources said.

Inna Lillahi Wainna Ilaihi Rajeoon, Allah give him Sabar...how hard it must be for him loosing his partner at this young age. Allah give him Sabar.....must be so hard for the kids too and family.

How short life can be and no one can predict it but we still don't think about it. Allah give us all Iman and make us think of our death all the time and do good deeds. I feel so sad for Wasim..

Akram's wife dies at the age of 42 | Pakistan Cricket News | Cricinfo.com
Huma, 42, is survived by two children, Taimur and Akbar, and arrangements are underway to fly her body back to Pakistan. A trained medical practitioner herself, she had stints with some of the leading hospitals in Pakistan as a psychologist and a hypnotherapist.
In the mid-1990s, during her husband's second stint as captain, Huma also worked with the Pakistan team for a while as a psychological counsellor, helping players such as Saqlain Mushtaq. Wasim also regularly credited her for helping him mentally, especially in the aftermath of the players revolt against his captaincy in 1993-94.
Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, also expressed his grief over the demise. "We are with Wasim and his family at this hour of need and pray to God to give them strength to bear this great and irreparable loss," he said. "All the management of PCB and fellow cricketers have also extended their condolences and prayed eternal peace for the departed soul."
Wasim, 43, played 104 Tests and 356 ODIs during his 17-year career, before retiring in 2002 with 414 and 502 wickets in the respective formats.

Her dead body is due to arrive in Pakistan around midnight today. Her poor kids. She was so young and vibrant. Wasim is also being treated because of such a big sadma. The docs are worried if he takes too much stress his blood sugar may fall and have a stroke. Allah Reham karay hum sub par. Ameen.
