We all know we need to talk to our kids about sex, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. We've seen that public service announcement. But kids seem to still be a little bit confused about what gay sex is and what they need to know to stay safe if they choose to practice it.


Peggy B Smith, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine and the director of the school's teen health clinics, said BCM's clinics are seeing a huge increase in the number of teenagers who have sex with members of the same sex, but don't self-identify as gay. They're young, they're sexually active and they're on the down low. The result is unsafe sex practices, which are leading to an increase in sexually transmitted diseases.
This past year, the clinics, which serve youth aged 13 to 25, have seen a 100 percent increase in the number of male teenagers with STDs who say they have sex with other men but are not gay, she said. (To be fair, that's only 12 kids compared to the six men they treated the year before, but still, what if it was your kid?)


"Knowledge is power," Smith said. "Parents have a moral obligation and parental obligation to talk to their kids within the framework of their religious convictions. If (parents) think these (behaviors) are problematic then they need to talk to their kids about these things. Don't leave it to chance."
Many parents focus on pregnancy prevention when talking with their kids about sex. That's a dangerous place to stop, Smith said. STDs, in addition to being easily transmitted through unprotected heterosexual intercourse, also can be contracted through more non-traditional sex acts.


While statistics on how many kids are having anal or oral sex are hard to pin down, the latest, most reliable study from the Centers for Disease Control says nearly half of all high school students have had sex and about 11 percent of them have had anal sex. Three percent of males at this age have had anal sex with other males. Baylor's Smith believes the figures to be even higher.
How early you might need to have these non-traditional sex talks with your kids may surprise you. A recent New York Times article profiled kids as young as 12 years old who already self-identify as being attracted to members of the same sex. It's not easy thinking of our pre-teens as being sexual beings already, but they are.

Whether you approve or not, kids are hearing about these kinds of sex acts. What they may not understand is that an unplanned pregnancy is the least of their worries. A lifetime of struggle with an STD is.

Kids become sexually aware and active way before the traditional ages of consent (16/18), a lot start experimenting as soon as they reach 13, at least they did when I was at school...

Homosexuality wasn't acceptable in our day though, God no, I'm only in my early 20s but peoples perceptions of homosexuality seem to have changed a lot since then.

When I was in school I would never ever have the guts to have my photo taken with another boy like the guys in your link, especially not to be published next to an article like that..

When we were at school, being gay was totally tabboo, nowadays it seems to be cool and acceptable.

The other day my cousin and I went to the mall, and afterwards we sat to a cappucino at a cafe, on the table next to us were 3 Apne teens, 2 boys and 1 girl all aged about 15-16, I started listening in on their conversation and the girl who was a hijabi was going on about how she has a private swimming pool at home and is inviting all her girl mates over for a party and a swim, the guys asked if they could come but she said she doesn't do mixed swimming with boys because she has to cover infront of them, to my surprise one of the boys (probably Sikh because he was wearing a Khanda locket) said "well I'm gay, surely you don't have to cover up infront of someone who's not attracted to you that way let alone perve on you", this is all whilst he's sat next to his Paki male friend, I almost had a heartattack, he came out with it so bluntly like it's as natural as him being brown or Punjabi and the funny thing is his mate didn't seem to mind one bit and he was the bad boy typess. God if someone said they was bisexual/open-minded to their classmates back in my day they'd get the living day lights knocked outta them!!

Another incident which I'll tell you about is, the other day I was walking my cousin and a neighbours son (about 12) home from school when my neighbours son pointed at a house and said out of the blue "my boyfriend lives there" and then started giggling, in my day if a boy was gay/bi he'd have no idea what his feelings were about and the most he'd have is daydreams about Ash out of Pokemon, they'd know nothing about making proper boyfriends... Young'ns these days eh!

Hhhmm...so what if ppl are accepting the fact that gays are normal? its just sexuality, and is personal.
and it is as normal as being brown or Punjabi.

Actually only 2-6% identify themselves as gay. There is a very high percentage who have experimented with same sex. They are curious types. This is very common in college. One of the main reason is it is much easier to find a partner, pregnancy wise safe. There is a notion is try all kinds of sexuality and explore it. postings on craigslist list say a lot.

Just because something is pleasurable to somone does not make it morrally right.

Next people will be advocating sons sleeping with their own mothers if both are consenting adults in the name of freedom.

We need moral guidelines to stop society from fcuking up.
