If it's your type of thing you might like to take a desert safari, but with 2 days that might be a bit ambitious.......
What we did when we were there (for 4 days) was to pay a desi taxi driver x amount and he took us on a tour by road........we did everything like saw Ajhman, Sharjah, palaces, the historic village (name I can't remember!) etc etc....better to do it that way than to take multiple taxi's.

Do you know whether there is any place close to the Arabian Ranches where you could rent one of those buggys and drive in the desert?

That is a 6-7 hours tour, you've to reach there at 4 pm then for 2-3 hours you enjoy ur desert safari after that you can ride on 4 wheels bike for near about an hour, then a buffet dinner, belly dance, camel riding etc. are included in tour package. You'll be free at sharp 9.30-10 pm.

Here you can check in detail what would be included in package, checkout only Evening Desert Safari (Dune Dinner) package.

We took a taxi for a day...left mid-late morning and returned around 9pm....i suppose it was quite fast moving......but it was the best that we could do in the time that we had. And we didn't feel like we had rushed anything either
Make sure that you find an indian/pakistani expat as they will be more willing to do the tour for cash.......

Is tthere any vacation island spots which are reserved just for foriegn passport holders? Last time i went to some local beach.. it was full of phatans...it was just disgusting. I need to find some spot in dubai where there is a nice beach full of foriegners.
Do they have the KEG in dubai?
