I wouldn't rate it as the best airport I've ever been to, but it's definitely one of the better ones.

Interior designers of both Burj Al Arab and Dubai airport were from the same company, KCA International. That lady, Kuan Chew, played a larger role in designing the Burj Al Arab, I think, while the main designer of the airport was some Boylan guy (from same company).

Dubai Airport is one of the better airports that I have been to. Although it all depends on how long a wait you have there!
On the way from Manchester we were there for 3.5 hours and it was fun, on the way back we were taking a weeks break in Dubai and had to get hubby's VISA sorted there and then and were stuck there for 7 hours...and believe me, it was tedious...............just wanted to get out of there!!!!

I think its better than London's Heathrow. Heathrow is big but it is not as good as Dubai's airport.

When I travelled to Dubai first time in my life in 2001, while sitting at JT, Karachi I was wondering and praising its "marvellousnees" but when I came back it looked to me as ruins of Mohenjo Daro when I compared it with the one in Dubai.

You should've just left the airport for a few hours. I had a stop there for 11 hours, and I just left the airport. Just make sure you don't tell anyone that you are leaving, though.

All depends upon your preferences, airport is just a place where u enter your aircraft, one may have better facilities than other depending upon air traffic, passengers variety (races/nations etc).
Dubai airport is not best, as a matter of fact non is, each has its own better thing. After visiting nearing 100 countries I have seen airports as premitive as Gawadar & as advanced as Hong Kong or JFK or Heathrow. I cannot rate which is the best one.
I still remember many airports how they were in mid 70s (when I was a little boy) & of course I remember the Dubai airport of 70s as well
