my friend told me that i can leave the airport for the hotel and can go any where in dubai, so any recommendations how that time should be spent.

When will you be in Dubai? Let me know.
Your friend was right. If you have an Australian passport, you will get a 30-day visa on arrival automatically. If you're Pakistani, you can't leave the airport without a previously issued visa. But that visa is normally arranged for by the hotel, if you ask them to do it and send them your passport details, etc. at least 7 days in advance.

They should send you a copy of the original visa page, which you will have to take to the visa collection counter when you arrive in Dubai.
I'll be in London on 29th, otherwise it would have been nice to meet up.

I went to Dubia recently. Here are some worthy places to visit:
- Emirates mall
- Dubia mall
- Al Nasar Leisure land (ice skating and bowling)
Well there ain't much more there except shopping malls. I pretty much dislike Dubia after my last visit. The prices are insane, The Texi drivers are usually morons, and most pakistani and indians are treated like dirt there.
As a bonus I also fell ill there with some kind of viral infection that affects the stomach and the throat simultaneously. Never would I eat another shawarma after the vomiting process I went through.

don't go to dubai mall yet. there are a lot of things that need to be set up, lots more stores that are opening. plus, it feels claustrophobic. and dark. the only good thing there is the aquarium...and the skating rink. oh and if you do go to dubai mall, don't forget to stare at the burj dubai once you get out of the mall.
if you reeeeeeally wanna go to a mall, head to dubai festival city, or mall of emirates. those places are nice.

I suggest you double check.
They do give transit-visa....on a further destination confirmed ticket but at a cost. Visit EMIRATES website which says it all....

I went to Dubai Mall this past Sunday, it's true many shops/rests aren't open but it's certainly not dark! Uff it's never-ending! Remember to wear comfy shoes! Festival City is nice.. The Walk in Marina is fantastic as well!
