With a 6 hour stop over you have only enough time to see Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates.
With 8 hours you can up the ante a bit and go for a decent city tour: 2-3 malls, eat out, walk through atlantis, and make a mad dash back to the airport.

^^ in real life scenario,, you can enjoy the airport only in six hours. Duty free is enough for that reason.
Dont eventhink of getting out of Airport, cause if you get stuck in the traffic, then you can say byebye to your connecting flight

6 hours would give u enuff time to see Dubai Mall, it's the closest to the Airport or even festival city.. try not to venture out too far like to mall of the emirates or ibn battuta mall.
Some days are a complete waste of make-up!

Stay at airport, and go through duty free shops ..restaurants....etc..etc.. 6 hour is way too lil time to go to city. It will take you 1-2 get out from the customs, then again 1 hour to enter... Dubays` are famous for hard time !
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Oh you big babies! Six hours are more than enough to leave the airport.
Festival City is a good idea, it' just 2km away from DXB. Essentially a touristy waterfront mini-city with a bunch of shops.

What time of the day will you be here? That does make a bit of a difference, because if it's a night-time stopover it doesn't really make a lot of sense to leave the airport. Everything will be closed anyway.
If it's during the day, ie anytime between 10 AM and 10 PM I'd agree with the Festival City suggestion. Dubai Mall is a bit risky, because first of all the distance to the airport is a bit more than that of Festival City. And there's a lot of construction going on in the Dubai Mall area, so you can easily get stuck in traffic there.

I think the job market is currently quite bad anywhere in the world. And that includes the UAE.
