salicylic acid all the way. BP is very oxidizing and it can cause damage if used in high strengths. proactiv which uses BP is now knwn to cause some patients acne scarring (pitting) because it is too strong. -

Salicylic acid is used to shed and prevent them from clogging pores and BP is used to kill bacteria that causes acne. For best results it's always a combination of both.. ..all you need is trust and a little bit of pixie dust! -
Aug 30th, 2009 11:48 AM #5 ^ Agree. I use salicylic as a toner and BP as a over-night treatment. I'm not an expert at this but from what I've read, salicylic is a peeling agent so your skin will shed and marks will diminish. BP doesn't allow bacteria to grow so when you use it, you are preventing future breakouts. A combination of both will be more effective in the long-run.
In case you are interested, I purchased my acne kit from platinumskincare.com upon recommendation from fellow guppies. The treatment includes 3% salicylic toner and microdermabrasion cream. You alternate between the two as you do NOT apply acid on freshly scrubbed skin. BP (5%) is separate....I use it every night. Seems to be working well so far! Planning on switching to 15% salicylic in the future. Also, you must apply B to your entire face and neck (if you breakout there) instead of applying it to active acne only because you want to prevent FUTURE breakouts. And of course, you'll need a effective moisturizer after all this, followed by sunscreen!

Aug 30th, 2009 01:58 PM #7 low concentration salicylic acid peels combined with a glycolic face wash, and retin a/tazorac is the best routine. "Life is too short to spend it hoping that the perfectly arched eyebrow or hottest new lip shade can mask an ugly heart." -
