whatever as a bride u feel comfortable in---its ur day...wear what U want...
personally red is just not my thing...and as u said..wayyyyyyy to common
to give u ideas tho--my sister wore all gold...and had red as the border--when she was sitting---she was gloooooowing bcause of the lights---she looked absolutely beauuutiful
---think of colors, shades u look good in and maybe stay within that?--if that helps
---i just think its one veryyy important day---do whatever fits ur style and taste

Well i've heard that dark colors r good for barat, and light for valima, but thas crap.. u can wear watver color u want! But i think white is too gora-style, and black/gray outfit is not really preferable.. but some ideas.. bright blue, mint green, orange, gold, fuschia, baby pink, brown/teal/gold combo.. and white/offwhite with color kaam is nice too

I think i'm gonna be wearing either red or pink, so wot if red is too common...my mum said we will see wot's in fashion at the time...go with wot compliments ur skin more...everyone has their taste, i prefer the tradtional red or pink...my mum wore a rosy pink in the 70s and my pupho wore an off-white one in the 80s...last yr my cousin wore a maroon red, it was nice...one of my bhabis' wore a creamy and light pink colour, it was alrite...just make sure it fits u nicely

^ Yeah, i think the only color that wud be "inappropriate" wud be totally white (gora style) or black .. i luv baby pink, but i also like turqoise.. i hav some designs, in pink/dark pink combo, mint green/blue/silver combo, white wit sky blue kaam etc etc, so who knows.. its so hard to decide

My clothes were apple green and red. my cousin wore a mauve pink, another wore magenta and rust. i think it should be whatever color you like. so what if red is common? if you like it, wear it. and you can always contrast it with something unusual.

I wanted the traditonal look, so i have a maroon lehanga with a simple design and work. Not too heavily worked like the usual lehangas though. ANd for walima, i have a light purple (teh color of falsa ka sherbet) with a darker purple at some places.

I went with a traditional colour as well. A deep red lehnga with antique embroidery.
There isn't a 'right' colour for a bride. Some people do say red/maroon is the colour, but it's really totally up to you. Go with what a lot of girls do these days. A darker shade for the wedding, and a lighter non-traditional one for your valima.

I went pretty different on my wedding reception. I wore a minty green shalwar kameez. For my walima, my in-laws gave me a maroonish lengha.

Hhehehe i say wear what you want to wear....so what is common....I don't see gori's not wearing white bc it's common!
I wore dark red, it looks amazing with my ruby/emerald gold jewelry. I thought it looked bridal and said hey i only wear it once.
For my two walimas I wore differnt colors b/c in your walima i don't think it matters...whatever you like. One was a light olivey green and gold outfit. The 2nd one was a dark magenta jamawar sherara with a tie die sindi style gota kameez-orange, magenta an purple. Very different than the normal desi bride stuff but was perfect for a 2nd walima 6 months post shadi.

Sahar, I would love to share, actually I cannot wait to share But I think it will look better if I wear it. So pray for me!
Also, i know this thread is abt bridal dress color. What abt the shoes though. i have a pair to go with my lehanga but I find the heel too long. Any good stores in the US where to find party shoes?? I am afraid to say I havent really went shoe shopping in the US except the usual Payless etc. Help me out here!
