Amused

What are some fashion tips fr when you go in to an interview? Are there certain things that are just not seen favorably, in terms of haristyle, makeup, clothing colour/pattern? And what about bags and shoes? Are flats okay?

Just trying to be prepared

Was I not supposed to say that?

Hair up, dress conservatively, minimum jewelry and subtle make-up.
What kind of a job is it? What kind of a place is it? Suits are usually safe and very professional.

and dont forget, A LOT of confidence!

Fine

I think the best thing is to look presentable, and look proffessional. you really have to dress according to the job. Just keep it simple, proffessional, and elegant.

Just be professional( Don't look too funky) otherwise there are many more important things to worry about ( Handshake, smile, greetings etc etc ect )

Fashion!

Must be in style for sure from head to toe... Your shoes, bag, ear rings etc.... Color coordination... etc make sure you keep everything in mind.. make sure pedicure, manicure are done....

I have noticed people wearing Red suit quite often try that... it might work ...

Life became all Gray! But NOW i have decided to paint it all over again.

what kind of a work enviroment is it?

Do you have a career center at your school? Usually they can help you. Or good stores like Saks and stuff.

I have an interview for an important corporate position next week and I want to make the best impression I can. Is there such a thing as "interview makeup"?
Absolutely. The face you show to your prospective employer is of paramount importance. You want to present an outward show of reliability, strength, competence and professionalism to support your written resume. Good grooming and appropriate makeup will help translate this message. Here are a few tips:
  • Don't apply your makeup in a hurry. Give yourself an extra few minutes to blend, especially foundation and blush.
  • Use tweezers. Take a glance at a magnifying mirror for errant eyebrow hair, or the ever-pesky chin hair.
  • We all know the importance of maintaining good eye contact during an interview; so don't go overboard with eye makeup. Remember, the goal here is to translate a serious sense of capability and competency, not cabaret. Stick with muted tones of brown, taupe or gray.
  • The same goes for mascara. Comb through those lashes after you've applied mascara; clumping is ugly; especially heinous at an interview.
  • Don't wear lip gloss to an interview. Keep the lips semi-matte and muted; a neutral pink or berry tone is pretty and appropriate.
  • Don't use makeup that contains shimmer, sparkle or glitter. (Did I have to say that?)
  • Keep blush natural-looking; a soft pink hue will work well.
  • Because of the stressful nature of an interview, you might perspire a bit more than usual. It's a perfectly natural response. So be prepared with blotting tissues to use before the interview, or take Kleenex to blot, and a good translucent powder to apply over that.
  • Arrive a few minutes early to touch up in the restroom or a nearby cafe, to check for perspiration, lipstick on the teeth, crumbs around the mouth, and (I'll say this as delicately as I can) anything around your nose.
  • Lastly, fluorescent lighting can wreak havoc with makeup, especially so with green and orange tones. To combat the effect, colors in the pink and rose families are the most flattering
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Here are a few tips: An eyebrow pencil will help define your look, use 2 layers of mascara to really open your eyes, stick to a natural lip colour. It is hard to give you specific advice, as I don't have a description of you. Remember to hold your shoulders back and walk tall. Be confident and enjoy the experience.

Sara every face is different, just as long as its not over-done, its all good.

yeah, those are the important things to keep in mind while dressing up.

an ad agency is the best example.

if ur on for creative, you just CANT be dressed formally. u dun have to, and mostly u wouldn't want to. u'l be wanting to wear formal with ur friends then cos u never get to wear it at work.

on the other hand, if it's servicing, you have to be at ur formal best. hair doesn;t really have to be up; a straight look looks the neatest.

Dressing up will not get you the job.

Confidence will.

True that your attire does make difference

However your confidence is what is going to win you the position.

The most important thing is that first handshake, It should be firm and strong.
Eye contact is necessary.
Please donot play with your hair or fingers.

and before going, do a bit of research bout the company so you know exactly what they want from you.

navy or black suit that fits u well (jacket should hit the hip or cover the hip)
white button down clean shirt tucked in pants with a black plain belt.
black heels or pumps (no open toed sandals or freaky high stilettos)
no clunky jewellery, tiny studs on ears are nice..
makeup: natural and light (no heavy eye makeup or bright lipstick) your makeup and jewellery should make u look nice but be so subtle so that it doesnt divert the interviewer's attention.
hair needs to be off your face (tied up or half tied up) but very sleek and professional....although i would recommend hair tied up.
smell pleasant but no overpowering perfume.
and chew on a mint before u meet them.
remember u have to "look the part"
and take a copy of your resume with u in a black file folder just in case.

Now assuming that you're interviewing for some type of professional/business job, here are the rules I'd follow:

1) Stick with neutral colors such as brown, navy blue, black, white.

2) Don't wear anything with bold/funky patterns.

3) As a female, I supposed you can wear a knee length skirt but I personally prefer dress slacks.

4) You don't necessarily have to wear a suit....in fact, these days a lot of companie's work enviornment is more casual. Do research on the particular company you're hoping to work for to find out what their "culture" is. Heck I know people who sit outside the building/office of the place they're going to interview for so they can watch the current employees go in and out so see what the current employees wear.

5) Hair should be neat and clean. I personally think it's more professional to have it pulled off your face and pulled back. You can leave it down too as long as it looks neat/clean, and is off your face. I guess a lot of it depends on the length and texture of the hair.

6) Make-up should be simple. Concealor/Foundation/Powder, Eyeshadow, non dramatic eyeliner(brown or gray), mascara, and neutral colored lipstick.

7) Please make sure all facial hair is either taken care of(eyebrows, upper lip etc.).

8) Pair of matching non-dangly earrings. I'm not a huge fan of jewelry to begin with so I personally don't wear anything on the neck or hands.

9) Tiny bit of perfume.

10) Closed toed matching shoes. Not flats, but not 6-in heels either. Something in between that you're comfortable walking in!!! Please don't wear shoes that you're not 110% comfortable walking in....last thing you want to do once inside the office is worry about tripping!

11) Matching medium sized purse.

I can't think of anything else right now....but if I do, I'll post them later.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

Holyhell i have an interview!! she said since i'm coming from class, I should come "business casual". i'm plannin grey wool slacks and a olive green/white hookdown shirt.. but im stuck with accessoreis and everythin else..

What purse? can I get away with a colourful bag that's in good condition? Or stick to my black "professional" bag which is kinda in not so nice condition

What shoes??! rounded toe pumps or pointy-toe stiletto boots (but can't tell they're boots coz pants are longish)

And jewelry, are(larger but plain) gold hoops okay, or should I go with really desi-fied gold studs? And is one single kara appropriate?

flats are fine; close-toed are best. You hair should be neat and in place. It doesn't need to be tied up, but it shouldn't be messy. Simple, classy jewelry, sophiticated colors for clotehs and nice fabrics. What's the job?
