Heylo people!
I need help. I really need ideas for a good, decent, and modest prom dress :P. something that doesn't look too busy or too subtle, and looks good with hijaaaab.
any ideas? :S
i know there were some other threads about this, but i can't find them.

u could buy a nice color long dress of ur choice and then buy matching cardigan or a dressy turtleneck to go underneath and a chiffon scarf to cover the head and arms.. i think it would look cute

i think any type of those ball-roomy type dresses would do. just pair it up with a short cardigan, that stuff that was really in last year, and use a light chadar, the ones we get in pakistan all beaded and squency and use that as a stole (sp?) to cover your arms.

it's not a "valentine dance" or "cocktail party".. it's a senior prom, which the school arranges for the seniors as a farewell party kind of thing. it's free :P you don't have to pay. lol. i'm going to spend time with my girlfriends basically.
thank you hareem, sidra, khumar, hin33!!
pix would really help!!
i'm really confused about the colors!!! i was thinking about peacock blue, tea pink or lavender :S

Peacock blue! The others are overused, the brighter blue would be more unique. Then you could pair it with lighter (like sky blue) coverings. I'm sorry, I don't even wear hijaab, but I think the combination of colors would look stellar.

I didn't mean to offend you. I know I've been to my senior prom and I know what kind of party they turn out to be I am not trying to be judgemental, but I got the feeling since your hijabi you'd be conservative. Typically liquor is available, whole purpose is to dance etc etc. and then some if its a typical prom where the kids wanna get it on.

yes please take no offense but sure you will be there with girl friends but guys will be there and I am assuming you are more religious then on that note--you shouldn't go to a dance party like that with all the "non mehram" men --boys being there--and this is not a necessity type of events --it is your choice--
by all means go but by being a hijabi you are kind of being selective about following islam.

O god you guys are so! leave the poor girl alone, jus coz she wears hijab, that means she shouldn't go to prom? There ARE people who'll go there and have a good time without drinking or dancing or getting laid afterwards.

Afro-Sheen: I don't feel offended. it's fine i understand your point completely. lol. i'm in saudi arabia, which supposedly happens to be one of the most conservative places on the globe. so proms here are pretty much under control. i'm not saying that proms take place totally cleanly, but there are moral standards up to an extent, not as liberal as proms elsewhere. there's no alcohol served on the prom at all, not here i mean.
advocatus: i don't hang out with boys plus i'm lucky that my hijaab keeps them AWAY from me. my main intention of going is simply because my girlfriends will be going there too, so it's more of a senior farewell to me than anything else. in my "personal" opinion, you can attend such functions as long as you know your moral and religious limits. i maybe wrong and am very open to corrections.
ali_mian:
other muslims attend proms too, when that's not really an "issue", i don't quite understand why "hijabeez" become victims of stigmatization. fine, they are looked upon as "saints" and "angels", but they have a life too. ditto as Sara516 said.

what a load of crap! why can't you go to Prom with a Hijab on!? as long as you know your limits...it's just fine..and I don't know what you pervs did at prom to make it seem like it's sucha huge deal...You go to Prom with your friend before you leave highschool..no, you don't have to drink or dance if you don't wish to!
anyways,
You can wear a sari or even shalwaar kameez...

You're in Saudi? so wouldn't the proms be all-girls? coz if its all girls then whats the need for hijab w/ it?

the girl asked for fashion advice..if she wanted advice on shuld she go or not..she'd go to religon.
i like the dressy turtle nenck or cardigan idea....you may do better buying that first..then looking for a coordinating dress b/c in the summer there may not be alot out there.
