well i too wanna ask how to get rid of them... cuz i've been going to gym for the past 2 years..and lifting like crazy....i used to be a very skinny guy and now im with the grace of Allah very muscular, i noticed i have 2 lines on my left bicep which i think is called stretch marks....i donno what those are... i've heard you get these marks either when u gain weight or loose weight really fast... in my case i've gained weight... now i dont know how to get rid of them.... they dont look bad tho.... they're hardly noticeable..
perhaps someone wiser here will help both of us out..

Stretch marks really cant be prevented. The degree of elasticity of your skin is inherited. You may be able to prevent them to a small degree by keeping well hydrated and by using creams on your skin (esp cocoa butter) but if your skin isnt all that elastic then you'll always be prone to getting them if you gain and lose weight.
Theres a cream called Mederma that can lessen the appearance of scars including stretch marks. Its kind of expensive but it apparently it really works.

Salaam Peeps
It is true that when someone loses wieght they do get the odd stretch marks- cos same happened to me- But they do dissappear- you should massage the area where stretch marks are visable infact you should massage your body even if you aint got stretch marks- and there is no need to buy expensive lotions- Almond oil is good- I use Avons Bath oil.
you should drink plenty of water and massage oil in circular motions- Invest in a good bath brush and use that also in a circular motions. try it for a month and let me know if the stretch marks start to dissappear, cos mine av!!
In short regular massages and Plenty of water.
by the way there is this oil called 'bio oil' ( i thinks!, will research and get back,) but anyways women that are pregnant shud massage this oil on their belly etc. during the pregancy- this stops the stretch marks frm appearing.
Hope this is helpful

Beleive me, the underlying muscle and how well its toned has nothing to do with the elasticity of the skin. When skin is stretched from gaining weight (pregnancy or otherwise) and then loosened from losing weight, the results are in your genetic cards as to whether you end up with marks or not. They can be lessened and they can be prevented to a SMALL degree with lotions and hydration - but depending on your elasticity, you will either get them or not. WHen you have your little ones closer together, you'll be more prone to them too since the skin doesnt get as much of a break in between the stretching and shrinking. I've had 3, very close together. And my family has notoriously non-elastic skin. No matter how well-toned my muscles are now - even if I get to that "6-pack" state, the skin on my tummy is still sadly sagging. And the marks have faded for sure with the use of mederma. But they're still there and the skin will never be the same. Thats why I keep on playing lotto - perhaps one day I'll get that tummy tuck lol!
Think of a balloon. The first time you blow it up and then let out the air, it goes back ALMOST to its original size and shape. But keep blowing it up and letting it go and you'll see the results, it gets big and soft and more stretched out. Skin is much the same.

wat u r sayin makes sense...but i still think pregnancy and this is different cuz in pregnancy u gain weight within 9 months...mostly girls gain weight fastlsy in the last 4-5 months and thats wat perhaps take a toll on the skin....And i agree with u on balloon part 2....lol...but thankfully this is the 1st proper time i m tryin 2 loose weight; eat rite and excercise....i havent been on and off it.

its easy for u 2 say that but just talk 2 those who have stretch marks or loose skin and u wl know wat that does to their self esteem. anywayz like i said i m being very careful with the weight loss...i m not in a hurry 2 loose weight...i m actually afraid i mite end up loosing more weight than i intend 2 in a month. Anywayz i have my dialy food intake chartered out by a nutrionist and she told me how to excercise too. Than i m also keeping my body moisturized and making sure i drink enuff water. Now the rest depends on my luck.
