I have a special occasion coming up this weekend, and I don't know if I should get my makeup done professionally or if I should just do it myself as I usually do. I'm not a wizard or very creative at putting it on, but I think I look nice enough with the end results (end result = powder, bronzer, eyeliner and mascara, and lipgloss). I don't normally use eyeshadow because I always feel like I look too made up.

I've never had anyone do my makeup and to be honest I wouldn't easily trust someone with it, even if they're a pro at applying it. I'm just really picky about what's on my face and how I look.

Thing is, I don't wanna look plain for the event compared to everyone else. But at the same time I'm hesitant to get my makeup done by someone because:

1) I honestly don't think I need THAT much makeup on my face to make me look better, I always prefer a natural look.

2) Everyone who gets theirs done always has tons of foundation on, and the foundation is a few shades too light so they end up looking like a ghost. I don't know why they insist on making you like 5 shades lighter!

3) From what I've noticed, makeup style here is to have it really bold and colourful and contrary to everyone else, I don't want to look like a plastic clown or a hooker.

So, general opinions, do you prefer to get yours done professionally or do it yourself?

And, secondly, who would you recommend (here in Toronto) who will actually listen to me when I say that I don't want to be super white, and I don't want eyeshadow up to my eyebrows?!

Also, is it possible to just have my eye makeup done by someone? Like, they can just blend the eyeshadow colours for me and do my eyeliner, but leave the rest of my face. I'd prefer this. The colours I want to use are golds and beiges anyway, so I'll be safe avoiding bright colours.

Natalia if you do a very good job with your foundation and rest of the makeup I would say go for a mac artist to do just your eyes and do the rest yourself.

Dreaming

Also consider using blush -- particularly in the summers -- it gives a really nice natural glow with a little bronzer.

instead of using plain makeup..mix moisturizer-makeup-illuminator (makeup forever makes really good powder) the secret is to use cream AND powder..gives it a really nice natural finish..not too plastic/pasty..and not too matte/cakey..
cream eye colors look great..try to use a primer on the eye lids for a creaseless finish..
lipstick is very personal..depends on what YOU think looks good on YOU...so trust your instincts concerning lipsticks...
blushes look good in berries..i dont like pinks..they dont look natural..try victoria secrets blush tint/stain..its not powder or cream..and looks gorgeous...
stay away from black eyeliner..tooooo hookerish...

haha..i was talking about an all over done-up look for a SPECIAL OCCASION!
if she does her eyes heavy..with lipstick...Blush...foundation....and everything....imagine what the end product would be....
brides...well unfortunately..our culture 'requires' brides to look 'a certain way' BUT i think it is our choice....if i dont want to look like that...i just dont have to...

honeslty.. it takes a feww nights of practice doing r own makeup differently in the mirror aloneee in ur room to figure out what suits u bestt... i suggest first u try different ways of applying foundation until uve found how to prefectly blend it in... then try eyes... first light eye make up.. then heavier eye make up... one eye with eye shadow and the other without.. then ask someone in ur family which eye looks better... and then try blush... lips... etc... lol... i know its sounds dumba nd tedious... but i promise thats the best way to try out a different , "special occasion" type of look without overdoing it or losing the natural beauty....

hope that helpss......

oh also... for speacial occassions one thing i do differently then from say casual make up is i appy eyeliner to the top anddd bottom... adds a veryy different look.. i love it...
