Hello ladies,

I am finally going to pakistan, it's been over 15 years since I've been there. I need some advice. Considering I am going from America the flight is super long, what would you guys recommend wearing, clothe-wise and especially shoes (I hear everyone say your feet get all swollen on the flight?) Oh and once I get to karachi, what kind of clothes are appropriate? And also what kind of shoes do ladies wear during this time of year?

Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated

Oh and I almost forgot, I am going to be in karachi for one week, any reccomendations on where I should shop? I am not familiar with anything there so if you can suggest something that i can tell the driver would be great. I only know of Maria B and don't know if there is a boutique in karachi. Any boutique selling nice clothes will be perfect.

Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance.

saadia

hey forget about fashion upon arrival - lol, you'll be on a plane for a looooong time so just wear COMFY!!! Shalwaar kameez is just the best, the ones that have nice stretchy elastic waist and nice loose top, material that isnt prone to wrinkle.

Feet swelling is a big thing. Move around once an hour if you can - walk up and down the aisle. Stay away from salty things, drink alot of water. AND will help even more if you use a moisture-retentive lotion before your flight. One flight I took, I ate alot of salty things and had tomato juice to drink (thats really salty too) and my feet looked like watermelons when we landed If this happens to you, lay down and raise your feet on a pillow and swelling should go down in an hour or 2.

I cant tell you about good shopping, its been a long time since I've been there myself. I'm envious of you! Have a good flight and happy shopping!!

in terms of shopping... it depends on your range... i'm not big on label clothing, but I hear Park Towers has a lot of boutiques for that.

Personally... i luv sjopping from Tariq road... there is so much variety... and it has a lot of ready-made boutiques where u can buy clothes from (if you organise well, and take a good "naap" of shalwar qamiz, then once you have picked out a suit u like, give the shop keeper the "naap" and tell them to alter it to suit you)... they usually do this within a day... and tell them you have to leave to go to another city in 2 days SO U HAVE TO GET THE DRESS THE VERY NEXT DAY, NO ARGUEMENTS!!!) oh, and one more thing; bargain your butt off (so to speak)! and no ENGLISH!!! and never tell them your'e from bahar, and never let a shopkeeper know that you like a dress (this will hinder your bargaining chances)

Gulf has nice shops as well (thats in clifton area)

Good luck with everything... IA you'll have a great time

Thank you guys!

About Tariq road, is there a particular area on that road that has better shops? I just dont want to get there and have a street that's 20 miles long with shops here and there. I don't have my own ride so it will be kinda difficult knowing where to go. And Park towers, is like a mall that they show in the dramas right?

Thank you again for all your help

dont know the street name ( i dont think it has one), but most of the boutiques are on the one street, and this street is running off perpendicular to main Tariq Road.

ok, so if u r taking a taxi, then the best thing would be to ask them to drop you near Rabi Centre... from memory, I think it is across from that!

never been to park towers so i cant help u there, sorry

Park Towers is in the Clifton area. You can also go to The Point. Maria B's boutique is there on the upper floor as well as Nadia Mistry and others. Zamzama street has high end boutiques too like Rizwan Beyg etc. If you wnat to stay in medium range go to Tariq Road. Yes Rabi Centre and surrounding malls are good. So is the Bahuraabd area.

Good boutiques are Karma , Generation (not too expensive), Maheen, Samanzar by Shayaine etc. Geneation is near Teen Talwar Clifton and has a branch near Tariq Road or Bhaudurabad too. Ask the shopkeepers once you get there

Regarding shoes to wear, its not quite cold there yet, people wear all kind sof shoes at this time, chappals and sandals too. December has been cold for the past few years so take flat closed shoes for walking. Wear Shlawar maeez and Duppatta. Though in teh high end areas like Clifton etc you can wear jeans too. Be careful though, don't wear gold jewerly about and people keep getting their cell phones stolen too. Don't tell anyone that you are visiting from abroad as they see $$$ signs.
