the ones wid a lot of different lipstick and nailpolishes shades, etc. arent of gud quality since they dont usually arent of famous brands..u should get the ones with a few different shades but of famous brands, like Clinique, Mac, Estee Lauder and chanel., and u can find em in malls

Depends where u are... as in the UK, there's soo many of these types of make-up kits going around on special offer price due to the Christmas season, but they are even cheaper in the Xmas sales... best bet is BOOTS if your in d UK...

The ones from Debenhams are really good. I think they are "Colour Institute" ones? I got them for my wedding and still use the eyeshadows - 6 years later!!!
Also, i agree with Boots ones being good as well. And yes cheaper in the Post-Xmas sales!!!
I also picked up a good eyeshadow pallate with approx 36 colours from Superdrug one year in the Sales and it was like £5.00 but still use that too!!!!
Good luck!

They usually come out around this time, for the Christmas holidays and such. Estee Lauder does some really nice ones. If you can't find them at regular department stores, like Macys, try outlet malls, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or cosmetics stores like Ulta.

How are the makeup kits that they sell at Macy's (the off-brand ones)? I am helping to assemble a barri and was wondering if a couple of those would be alright to include.

^ depends, if the person ur assembling it for appreciates quality over quantity...not so good if they're more abt quantity... as far as i know, dept store makeup kits (like mac, estee lauder, lancome, clinique etc) are nice, but there's not alot in there so if someone is more abt hte quantity, they're better off getting cheaper kits

i don't know if you're in toronto, but sears has this fantastic HUGE estee lauder set available and it comes in this beautiful gold travel kit for $60 if you buy any fragrance from them. it was in their newest flyer and it has full-size products, not the sample size ones.
theres also this Elizabeth Arden one for $62- http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B000V...odeid=15860881

^That sounds great.
I'd be careful about the no-name brands. They can be very damaging for your skin and eyes if they are not developed properly.

Also, cheaper brands of cosmetic kits don't have lasting power - i.e. if you put the eyeshadow on it doesnt stay on/glides off because of quality.

yup, i think if you're putting something on your face i.e. your skin/around your eyes/your mouth, its just a better idea overall of investing in good products that might be worth a bit more but then will last longer and won't be harmful to you. consider the makeup kit an investment.

I was just about to say if you are going to get any kit it should be the Sephora Blockbuster kit, good quality. Even that has way too much makeup tho.

maybe cos they're only special editions? like, "with purchase" offers as opposed to stand-alone products that they sell?
