I've had both kinds - real and acrylic in the past, not to add length but to add volume more than anything as I was going through a bad patch with PCOS (thankfully under control now hence why I no longer need the extensions)

Acrylic extensions are woven into your haor, it's a painless but lengthy procedure. It does look totally natural but you mustn't get them very hot since they'll just melt.....which a friend of mine found out the hard way when she opened a hot oven

The real hair extensions are glued in with resin bonds, it's also painless but takes ages assuming you are having a full head of extensions.

The maintenance is what puts most people off, you can't use conditioner or a comb and it's hard to get used to sleeping with them in - feels like you've got a bag of peas inside your pillow Plus it's expensive and you need to have the acrylic ones changed every couple of months, the real ones cost more but technically work out cheaper over times since they last forever and you can keep them when you have them taken out. I've got mine in a box somewhere because I couldn't bear to throw away nearly 600 pounds worth of extentions

I got mine done at Lucinda Ellery in london and highly recommend them for anyone who wants extensions. When done by a professional the results are amazing, it's when people get the cheaper extensions and try to save money by keeping them in for months on end that you get the bald patches and root breakages.

^ Yes, 3M drops from Phillip Kingsley. You can't buy them online and you'd have to pay to see him as a private patient at one of his clinics, I went to the london one.
