In Love

Hi All -
Since we are all always trying to watch the figure (or in my case, lack there of) I thought we should have a thread on some simple healthy replacements for not so healthy ingrediants.

I'll start.

1. Rather then Mayo, I dress my sandwhiches with hummus

2. Rather then making tuna with Mayo, I make it with avacado. Personally I think it tastes better and is just as filling if not more then Mayo.

Okay -- add on everyone.

If you want to have a paratha, u can use olive oil. Thats healthier I guess.
When I was in UK my SIL was only using Olive oil and they get those in big 10L containers! We just get one 1 L bottle, so if you live in UK use those to fry your food too.

I wanted to add, losing weight is a pain the back!!
Today I offically claim that I am not standing on the weight machine anymore.
I swear I have stopped eating croissant/bread with butter and jam, instead tea with 2 rus (they are 35 calories each)
I eat healthy lunch, like salad, I have an apple a day, for dinnner sometimes I have 1 roti or some rice and I am still not losing weight. I drink enought water, I have these fasting teas.

:-/

I am confused. I love Pakistani food, I eat it on a daily basis. are roti's and saalan considered healthy?

I am trying the whole eating healthier and exercising thing but having trouble defining healthy eating. And I want to eat salads so badly but what is a good tasting salad? I've never prepared a salad! I've only had caesar salads at restaurants.

Any tips on what you guys are eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks...and salads? Please thanks.

Saadia don't even pay attention that you are not loosing weight just eat with small portion but eat 5 to 6 times. avoid as much as you can sweet things. Atleast 45 mints to an hour cardio daily. Any kind of sports are good like racquet ball, squash, indoor soccer and most important..be happy and pray.

substitute yogurt mixed with your favorite seasonings as a dressing for salads. vinegar and extra virgin olive oil is also a good healthy dressing (not the same as vinaigrette which has corn syrup i think)
when making an omellete instead of pouring a whole bunch of oil just pour less than half a teaspoon and spread that with clean hands all over the pan on the sides as well. u'll find the egg wont stick and will cook in very little oil.
if u find salads boring then u could instead four or five different veggies and use them in every meal. in your omellete for example always add bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, fresh spinach etc. the more you add the more fuller you will feel without too many calories and its a great way to get your veggies.

u could add multivitamin sources to your favorite juices .. I add fresh bee pollen and aloe vera to my orange juice.

try and develop the habit of eating your pasta 'al dente' or cooked for less time so that its still firm. the longer u cook pasta the higher the glycemic index

if u crave a sweet dessert...instead of dairy-based icecreams go for fruit-based sorbets. they are lower in calories and are big on taste

thats all i can think of for now...

Muniya,
how do u use avocado instead of mayo? Do you mash the avocado/flavor it? Recipe plz. Another Idea is to use another flavoring in your tuna salad. I tried mixing with Lite Italian dressing, chopped egg, tomatoes, onions, peppers and added to a whole wheat pita pocket. I THINK that's healthier then a slab o fmayo.

Also isn't frozen yogurt better than ice cream. Also just freeze some fruit and mash it up....or make popsicles from 100% juice....nice frozen treat. For sandwiches...at restaurants...try eating it open faced...by that i mean take the top off and just eat the filling with the bottom, less carbs. Also try to get a side of veggies instead of mashed potatoes/rice.

As for curries, try to add veggies to your salen, but do NOT overcook them, learn to love crunchy veggies with some masala

I just throw the avacodo into the bowl and smush away...
its very easy to turn to paste...

I like your idea too though -- definately going to try it.

eat wholewheat bread and pasta if you're craving carbs.

make your own salad dressing with a bit of extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon juce-- you can also add in some red pepper flakes and use that as a healthy marinade for fish or chicken.

steam your veggies- this way they're "cooked" but not done to the point where a) they're mush and b) all their nutrition drains away.

No jaani I just add the usual salt pepper.. you do everything as if the avacdo was mayo.

SGC -- i love the tip about the whole wheat pasta. I find it tougher to eat as well, so it takes longer to chew and i eat less.

Yeehaw

eat dinner at least 3-4 hours before going to bed. I have tested it.
I used to go fast walk for an hour after 2 hours of having dinner....i lost 5 lbs in 2 months which I could not loose before in 8 months despite of going to freaking gym.
