After doing sets of pushups, I get this terrible knee pain (only on the left knee), what is the connection? :S

let it relax. for a while.
next time make sure you do stretching before doing any exercise.
Never do exercise when body is warming down. Always create stiffness in joints.

I never felt pain in the knees since the time I started it 10 years ago(Alhamdulillah). It is better to warm up for 10 minutes and then divide the amount of push-ups (which you can do) in 3-4 sets. Also make sure that you don't put pressure on your knees ( usually the pressure is developed on your knees when you are also moving your legs during the pushups). The whole body should be motionless, the only part moving should be your arms and shoulders. ( where the whole pressure is exerted). Also make sure that your body is in perfect balance and you move slowly.
Kindly forgive my english if I haven't been able to explain what I intented.

I don't get knee pain, but the occasional wrist pain when I do pushups without dumbbells on the floor. I would recommend using dumbbells for pushups because it keeps you oriented and there is less disbalance of the body proportions.

-like someone above said do a warm up before you start doing pushups.
-warmup should be followed by stretching.
-when you do pushups make sure your form is right.
- if you cant go all the way down then start pushups against the wall at 45 degrees angle.
-initially i suggest you get those propel/getorade etc which ease the pain in your muscles.
-when you do pushups your back should be straight, and knees shouldnt bend.
-btw do not do pushups everyday. do them 3 times a week for now.
i do a whole lots of pushups. its the best non instrument requiring exercise there is.
In any case your knees shouldnt hurt. may be your chest, shoulders, triceps but not knees.
what kind of pushups do you do? and how many per set and overall?

Your legs are badly out of shape if they hurt after you do pushups. I don't see the correlation.

Yep. Used to happen with me a lot when I would pray 5 times and traveeh in Ramadan because the body is not used to that much work out. It still happens sometimes when I jog or do any leg exercise. I went to the doctor and they did x-rays and everything turned out to be normal. The pain was still there. Then they did MRI and it turned out that the "cushion" underneath the knee joint had a VERY SMALL tear and that's what causes the pain. They were suggesting surgery and physical therapy and I was like I don't think so. May be when I am 40 and it gets worse.

your knee pain has nothing to do with you doing pushups ( unless ofcourse if your body isnt balanced )... go get it checked. As someone stated above .... during pushups...only your shoulders and arms should be moving..nothing else.

Do you have the natural gap in between your tighes when you stand right and join your feet?
