General rules: Use "healthy" fats in place of unhealthy ones - ie., use extra virgin olive oil instead of ghee or butter. EVOO actually boosts good cholesterol while lowering the bad.
Eat more fruits and vegetables.
Drink lots and lots of water.
Have a low-cal bowl of soup and a salad before your main meal, you'll end up eating less.
Generally, the more processed a food is, the less healthy it is for you.
Eat less cake, candy, sweets. Indulge occasionally but reduce the portion.
My mom followed these rules....actually she was following the Weight Watcher's plan where you foods are assigned point values and you count points to stay within a daily limit. But above is basically what she did. She lost 65 pounds in about 8 months.

thanx girls!
i am a pakistani in lahore so u know our general eating habits include roti/rice in lunch and dinner. Some cereals or eggs or sandwich in breakfast. and on and off some junkies!
i have very less food in breakfast, chicken or rice or veges or something of the sort for lunch and a heavy dinner. I dont understand what should i cut down! i mean that is the essential food i need to have, proper food i have 2 times a day,if i stop eating that much food too i guess ill keep fainting or something!
Actually, my job is of the sort that i have to sit in front of the laptop at work for some 10 hours. there isnt much movement involved so i keep gaining weight or it is constant but it doesnt reduce no matter what! that is why i am looking for such tips that can be easily cut down in my every day eatables...!

"Eat breakfast like kings, lunch princes, and dinner like beggers."
Cut down on carbs, eat more vegitables and fruits, drink more water, introduce some sort of movement activity in your daily routine like brisk walking every eveining/night or running early morning, etc.
May Allah bring peace in Pakistan. Ameen

exactly as the above poster mentions.
eat a healthy breakfast (include a fruit), then eat 5-6 times a day small portions like the size that fits your palm. your dinner should`nt be around at 9-11pm like most Pakistanis, eat at 6-7pm, depending on when you sleep ya.
and most importantly move move move, keep on moving.
good lucko
