Colors
Red--no
Orange
Yellow--not enuf contrast
Green--could work, if the grey is metallic
Blue--yes
Purple--maybe..
Pink--contrasts perfectly
Brown--ugly

depends on the type of grey,
how deep it is, its intensity etc... texture/shine of fabric etc...
grey and cream is the safest, very decent combination...
but depending on type of grey you may be able to pair it with some richer colours
such as deep marroon
deep emerlad

A lot of colors look beautiful when contrasted with grey or grey with sliver looks good alone.
When choosing a color though you have to think about what look you are trying to acheive.
I wouldnt mix grey with dark standard colors like red or blue because they are more mature contrasts but if you are going for the mature look go for 'em.
I loved the grey gharara Aish is wearing in Umrao Jaan in the song Main na mil sakoon jo tumse

contrast for what? in sequins or a contrast for shalwar and dupatta?
i would say blue. depending on ure grey shade choose ure shade of blue.
i have a grey trouswer that borders on silver.. so i made a shengai silk kameez in bright blue .. it has silver and midnight blue print on it...
