hey shay, try this medicated shampoo, it's called nizoral. it works wonders. i didn't have dandruff but i sometimes have bouts of *very* dry scalp, it literally flakes off. i tried everything but nothing was working so i asked my doc as she prescribed this medicated shampoo called ketoconazole. nizoral is basically the same thing but available without prescription. it works for dandruff too.

My derm has strictly told me not to use any Garnier hair products due to some chemical they contain that is really bad for the hair.

My scalp got so so icky after using Garnier.
Is it just dandruff or your scalp is itchy too shay??
Nizoral will only work on dandruff but if the scalp is itchy and scaly you'll have to stop using shampoo for 14 days and use a Tar Scalp Cleaner like Polytar.
Look for Tar Scalp cleaners in the chemist, they have it.

Garnier made my sister lose hair like no other. It was then I asked my doctor about it and he suggested strongly against it because according to him, it's very harsh on hair.
Adra, my scalp is usually not itchy with dandruff.. I guess just once in a while. The derm said my scalp is scaly

You should return it bhabs, I use a mild shampoo (johnsons baby) usually and once a week wash my hair with a good clarifying shampoo.. using Jonathan from Sephora. It's a vegan shampoo and works very well. I have experimented alot with shampoos and found Sephora to have the best collection.

I guess I should. I have very frizzy and voluminous hair and need to use something to calm them before I use a haor straightener. I was using Aveda but the store was a bit far so I decided to just use a drugstore brand. This lady recommended Garnier. Guess I'll be going to Sephora. Thanks Shay.

i'm pretty sure that nizoral is for all these skin conditions, scalp and body. i've never heard of having to use a scalp cleaner alongside.
forget head and shoulders and all that jazz.. they are not supposed to be any good for your scalp and hair in general.
with nizoral you just use a tiny bit massaged directly on your scalp, leave it for about 3 minutes, rinse out, and then you can use your normal shampoo too.
after the first 2-3 weeks, it only needs to be used once every two weeks or so.
shay - ask at your pharmacy, i'm sure they will have it. if not ask your doctor about ketoconazole.
"Ketoconazole is a synthetic antifungal drug used to prevent and treat skin and fungal infections, especially in immunocompromised patients such as those with AIDS. Ketoconazole is sold commercially as an anti- dandruff shampoo, branded Nizoral, by Janssen Pharmaceutica."
... it eliminates the fungus which is the cause.

^thanks hun!
currently, i have been prescribed beta-val which is an acne lotion but is also used for treating dandruff, etc but i still have not used it. the thing is, since i have never had a problem with my hair before alhumdulillah, i want to take the easy route before applying anything 'severe' to my hair. i checked with cvs and they carry nizoral so will go and pick it up tomorrow, iA. again, jazakallah for the info

shay are you on some sort of medication , maybe this is a side effect. A rinse with vinegar is a home remedy but maybe that will be too harsh for the condition you have.

oo i have the frizzy hair and it seemd that after using Garnier it calmed down A LOT!! I dont even find the need to use a straightner at times now cuz my hair just dries out pretty peacfully.. Im using the SLEEK & SHINE shampoo and conditioner and it seems to work pretty pretty well.. however it might not suit everyone..
