These days designers are trying to be cutting edge, modern and creative. In my opinion I don't like how they are trying to be western. Models in Pakistan model clothes that are very western like off the shoulder, half tops, etc. Do women in Pakistan actually wear these nowadays? I mean actually wear what these Pakistani based designers design? How common is it to see these outfits in public parties? And if not, what kind of people and at what kind of parties would wear these styles? Here are a few examples of what I am talking about:

What kind of people? Here's a list of what kind of people:

1) FEW PEOPLE (that's the chief type of people that would flock to the above outfits)

2) Models

3) Actresses

4) Dancers

What type of party/occasion?

1) Runway ramp

2) In a garden running around the trees with a hero and fake singing a song (MOVIES)

3) "MODRAN" Mujrah

4) Costume Party?

5) Reality Show based on WHOEVER CAN WEAR THE MOST REVEALING DESI CLOTHES WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5) Some weird "MODRAN" Desi night club that wants to promote ethnic wear.....but with a western twist

6) Desi Belly Dancer.

Hmm, ran out of ideas. Think i've covered it for the most part.

By the way- I have never been to a Pakistani party in America where women have worn the above designs. Most women wear half or full sleeve shalwar kameez or kurta/pajama.. I myself being born and raised in America would never wear such above styles..I can't believe some ppl in Pak do..

yea i don't like how some paki designers try to b western...like hello there is not a need for western designs, there are enough western designers. they should be proud of their own culture and stop trying to westernize everything.

All of those are no different from saris. I have seen women young and old wear saris which show lots of skin, and that is considered normal.

Pakistani designers try to make their outfits more western so that they can appeal to a larger audience, middle eastern, american etc. This way, the more publicity they get, the more they can be noticed by the wetsern media and Pakistan can be known for more than just whats shown on CNN.

The more exposure Pakistani fashion (and to a larger extent, music and movies) they can get more money from investors and customers, money which they can probably put back into the country. (well theoretically speaking )

Plus this has been said a milion times now--runway stuff is NOT meant to be worn! When designers put on shows, they are selling an idea, recreating an era or starting a new trends in colors/designs/cuts. Slowly those wacky things u see on the runway trickle down into mainstream society which is more wearable for average folks.

The answer is...no we don't. I don't understand why designers design such outfits in Pakistan. The usual outfits are salwar kameez, lengha and sarees for parties....usually those that are not revealing.

Yea, sometimes at weddings a few of the sari clad women have such short blouses but that's only a few women. But when I wear a sari my blouses are much longer, not unusually longer but long enough so my back and stomach don't show. Same goes for most of my Paki friends and ALL of my cousins/aunts. Besides this I have never seen women in revealing shalwar kameezes or lenghas unless they were Hindu. Well, I've never been to a Hindu party but my cousin has and in some of her pics, the girls wore sleevless shalwar kameezes or short tops with lenghas. But I have never seen this on Pakis in America.

I think its good Pakis want to be known for fashion and not what cnn portrays them as but at the expense of religion? At the expense of Pakis rejecting the clothes and foreigners buying them? I think they need to design modern outfits that are still Pakistani looking and sell it to their own people. We don't want to lose our culture, our style of clothing. People from other countries can get western outfits from their own country. I mean, Pakistan needs to keep fashion in Pakistan for Pakistanis. Plus I don't know a single Pakistani in America or my few relatives left in Pakistan that would dare wear these outfits for the danger of being ridiculed and talked of and for the more danger of dressing in an UnIslamic manner. I don't mean to preach but if these designers want to destroy the face of Pakistani fashion just to cater to foreigners then they need to move to those such countries and work for those people. The Paki shops near my house don't sell quite as much revealing outfits as the high-end designers in Pakistan. BTW- I am not a hijabi or strict religious person but I still think Pakistani outfits can be hot without revealing..

I am sure it is to impress Pakis in America and make them think Paki styles are modern and cool. But guess what? No Paki or shall I say very very very few think so. I asked my cousins if they would wear such styles and they looked at me like I was stupid. They said things like "My Mom would kill me!" or "You know that its haraam so why would I wear it? Not even if someone offered me million dollars to do so." So yea, I doubt regular everyday women wear these revealing styles in Pakistan. Its probably just models and actresses at high-end parties..
