One of my non-desi friends is getting married this summer - I have to wear a non-desi dress, gimme some ideas ladies! Oh, and I am looking to get it stitched myself as it can't be too revealing.
So, evening wear dresses that are stunning, please.
Young soul's search has been paused.

All you can really do is find a dress that's long enough with a high enough neck and thick straps as the minimum. then wear a shawl or shrug or cardigan over it. Go to macy's, their dresses are usually nice, decently priced and they have a good variety. Make sure to go to the misses/eveningwear section and not the junior's section. However, this stuff is appropriate for an evening reception. I dunno if you can wear an evening dress to an afternoon ceremony at a church.
EDIT:
I bought an evening dress from macy's by betsy adams, it was full length, with thick straps but sleeveless and had a deep neck- I found some matching material to make the neck higher and I also wore a light shrug to cover my arms. dress cost $125, shrug cost $30.

Mahismart, you're great - honestly
I want something flowy for sure. I am going to try finding flowy dresses in a variety of materials - that makes a difference too.
thanks again!

Hey snazzy, not going to the daytime ceremony - just the evening reception so need something classy.

PM'd you details-
Great ideas and choice mahismart. One caveat though: the Macy's website has totally diff designers and prices than the actual stores- which i found out when I went dress shopping. I wanted to try on the dresses so I wanted to buy from the store, not online, and i was pleasantly surprised at the choices- they had high end designers like CK, BCBG but they also had less expensive ones- which i wanted b/c i didn't want to spend too much on a dress i was not going to wear too often.
JC penny has some nice ones as well moderately priced, but since it is prom season, they may be overly stocked with bright and sparkly dresses... Cache (i dunno if this store is in your mall) has some nice ones too- tend to be pricier but if you're lucky you might find something on the sale rack. But def check department stores like Nordstrom, Macys, JCP, lord and taylor, bonton, parisian, etc-

Hey Mahi
Yeah I found two - one is sparkly blue and the other is black. But I am still unsure. I have this perfect dress image in mind - looking to make it a reality - this is a very close friend's wedding so you know..

Post pics. We can all vote and let you choose. BTW, sparkly blue sound nice. What are your friend's wedding colours?
