I don't know if it kills the purpose- the people with a purpose will always find a way for that purpose- i.e. if a person truly wears one to hide their shape, they will wear a loose abaya that is not revealing. but many of these abayas look like black dresses, especially with the empire waists and the belts that highlight the shape. Frankly I don't care what people wear, as long as they don't think they're being more religious when they wearing tight fitting abayas that reveal the knee length skirts they're wearing underneath when they walk (i saw this when i was in the middle east). This is by no means generalizing to all fashion forward abaya-wearing girls, its just some take it further than others. One aunty (in US) asked us to bring an abaya when we went to mid east, then when we brought it for her she sent it to pakistan to have it altered to be really tight fitting. that way people can say: wow she's religious, but she's still smokin'!

I remember a few years ago HSY had some abaya's on his website. They all had swarovski crystal work on them. Really cute, although the models wearing them looked like idiots in their mini skirts and long boots with a hijab and abaya on top. I emailed him about a few, and of those the cheapest was $400. I wonder if he still makes them?

who sets the standard as to what is the correct thing to do is......Allah,Quran And rasool. we wear abaya or chaddar to cover our zeenat as ordered by Allah. now if we are going to embellish our covers and make them tight to look hot. its useless. why wear it in the first place. if you wear it so ppl say you are religious then this is such a major sin that can delete all your good deeds.(showing off)
and if u want to look hot then leave abaya at home.
