Anyone know of any good restaurants in DC area? will be going there for vacation soon and have heard there are awesome Afghan Kabab restaurants in the region - anyone have suggestions. Also any suggestions on other good Desi, American, Chinese, etc would be appreciated.

There is a good Pak kabab place - Ravi's kabab in the Arlington area.

Good desi (Indian) restaurants are Jaipur & Bombay Cafe (Fairfax).

agreed. kabob palace in crystal city,va has great food....ignore the ambiance (or lack thereof) however.

ravi kabob is also good...located in arlington, va
there is chutney in springfield,va

there is charcoal kabob located in herndon...it is a cross b/w pakistani/afghanistani cuisine.

The Afghan Restaurant in alexandria, va is one of the most popular in the area and Food Corner in annandale, va- for afghani cuisine.... the lamb chops are mouth watering.

Duke House of Kabob and Moby Dick (my fav for mid eastern cuisine) are also good for mid eastern dining.

If you want fast food or halal pizza joints try Stonehot Pizza in alexandria,va also located in other areas in the DC region.

Lebanese Taverna in tysons galleria, McLean, va

PF Changs- fusion chinese

Also Mandarin Chinese Halal in sprinfield, va

all locations are right outside of Washington, DC and most are accessible by metro rail

Do not live in the city of washington, DC itself...rather move right outside of it (virginia/maryland).

will you be working or going to uni there? if so what location? how far are you willing to commute? will you be commuting by car or public transit?

I can give you a better idea of what area is best to live in once you answer these questions....

for now I can suggest...reston, tysons/mclean, fairfax, parts of arlington/rosslyn/ballston are nice as well (all in northern va)-northern va is by far the best place to live.

if you want to live in the city itself....georgetown is a nice trendy place to live in but far too expensive. Also if you have a family....i would not recommend it.
