(Los Angeles, 11/10/04) -- The Muslim Public Affairs Council today exposed a possible link between a Santa Monica business owner and the known terrorist organization, the Jewish Defense League (JDL). Bunnie Meyer, owner of "All Phone Wholesale" and member of the JDL, has repeatedly refused to remove posted messages of hate from her storefront. The messages, which target Palestinians specifically and Arabs generally, include opinions such as "Palestinians are pigs, murderous scum pigs." Meyer's signs also attack President Bush as a "coward" and "traitor," accusing him of caring about his "Arab Islamic pig friends" over the welfare of the nation.
Meyer's membership in the JDL, an organization that condones protecting Jews using "all necessary means -- even strength, force and violence," incites fear and concern among American Muslims. MPAC today notified the FBI of Meyer's alleged allegiance to the JDL, which according to the Bureau has been responsible for at least 40 terrorist acts in the United States since its inception in 1968.
During a press conference this afternoon, interfaith leaders joined the Mayor pro-tem of Santa Monica Kevin McKeown to uncover this propagation of hate. Speakers included Rabbi Steven Jacobs of Temple Kol Tikvah, Robin Toma of the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission and Salam Al-Marayati, Executive Director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. Over the past six weeks, MPAC has worked with the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), the Coalition on the Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), the South Asian Network (SAN), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center (GLC) to condemn Meyers signs as hate speech. The partnership has also contacted the City of Santa Monica's Consumer Protection Unit, and filed a hate incident report with the Santa Monica Police Department.
After the press conference, Rabbi Steve Jacobs joined MPAC's Hate Crime Prevention Coordinator Sireen Sawaf and National Director Ahmed Younis in a face-to-face meeting with Ms. Meyers.
"As we moved from the press conference to enter into discussion with the owner, it became clear to me that Ms. Meyers is a member of the Jewish Defense League, an organization not only outlawed in Israel but condemned here in the United States," said Rabbi Jacobs. "There seems to be no room for engaging differences of opinion when she and others see the world in black and white, and all the world seems to be the enemies of Jews."
Two members of the Jewish Defense League were arrested in December 2001 on charges of conspiring to blow up the Los Angeles offices of Congressman Darrel Issa, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and a Los Angeles area mosque. National Chairman Irv Rubin committed suicide, after nearly a year in prison. Earl Krugel, the other man behind the planned attack, pled guilty in February 2003 to conspiracy and weapons charges stemming from the plan and was expected to serve up to 20 years in prison. However, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Lew, recently found that Krugel "broke conditions set on his deal and ordered him to face trial on further charge," increasing his possible sentence to 55 years.
"We will not allow the violence and hatred of the Middle East to spill onto American streets," said Al-Marayati. "Although this business-owner has a right to her personal views, we have the duty and obligation to share this form of public hate with the American people. Diseases can only be healed in the light of day."
Over a dozen signs cover Meyer's store windows, bearing statements such as: "Palestinians are worthless filthy scumbag cockroaches descended from the bowel movement of pigs" and "A stupid rag head Arab pig who kills innocent people by crashing an airplane into a building cannot become a martyr, but he can show you the value of his pig mother, his pig father and his pig teacher of his pig faith."

Email your local media with this story and state your feeling. The affairs of acorss the oceans must not be transplanted as JDL is trying to do. They are trying to start a religous war in this country and they must be called on this. JDL is a terrorist organization based in America wanting to spill blood on the streets of our nation. We must speak to this point.
