wats with us south asian ppl and gori chamri??

i see it everytime that they only think sum1 is beautiful if he/she is gora/gori

and its a must for girls guys r forgiven sumhow

but still beauty for us means being fair

and all these rishta aunties first thing they notice is skin colour

its their first priority "larki gori ho,........................" eveyrthing comes later

i mean y is it that we r obsessed with skin colour?? does it really matter

personally i have never seen ppl of other races doing this its something that we coloured ppl do and by coloured i mean brown skin

never seen any african person tryign to get white or using fairness cream

      - stay in sunlight and become kaala bhoot
      OR
      - use fair and lovley and get closer to being fair

actually rishte wali aunties want ot know if the girl is 'pyari' and to be pyari being 'hwite' is not a necessity..it depends on the whole package i guess..tall thin ..not necessarily white but nice quality skin..even if shes samli does her skin glow..thin features..etc..

besides...its not about if the rista wali or the guyz family chooses th girl..the girls family has to choose the guy too..and im not just talking about his looks they have to look at other stuff too..it doesnt mean its a done deal just becasue both larka nad larki are high in 'looks department'..so ther is some discretion on the part of the larki wale too ..so then what does it matter if htey look at that?..dont the girls side look at certain things of the guy side?..they are both picky on their own basis..

and yes african american do have creams that lighten the skin..iv seen them myself..adn there are black people who are intersted in using htese creams..so yes they also have this urge or desire or whatever u want ot call it..so pleez ppl do not deny this..

I cannot go in my backyard many days because the gorian of my neighborhood will be out their tanning their skin in their own backyard. .
So goray are obsessed with darker skins and we darker skin people are obsessed with gori chumri.
      Fools never disagree.

There's colorism in every society. Japanese women are considered beautiful if they are fair (tan women are considered loose).

Black women are considered to be more beautiful the lighter and more caucasoid features they have (though they are not caucasoid). And some lighter black women aren't considered black by their darker counterparts.

Light skin is a sign of money. Wealthy women can stay inside all day, while the poorer ones are outside, and thus become darker due to their exposure to the sun.

However, for white people, a sign of health and wealth is to be tan, because as so many jobs are not moving inside (desks, computers, etc), having tan skin shows that you have the free time and money to become tan.

I'm very fair. I'm often mistaken for Italian or Spanish. However I often wish that I were darker, so I would feel closer to my own ethnic groups. Sometimes desi's don't believe that I'm desi (I'm half Arab as well). On both sides, I feel as though I have to prove what I am, and it becomes very tiresome and redundant.

In many societies, fair skin is equated to beauty. So it's definitely not a phenomenon with desi's only. Houri in Islam are described as fair, wide eyed beauties. So the concept of fair equating to beauty has it's roots in religion as well.

Fair skin can be beautiful, but it's the tone, texture, and health of the skin that make one truly beautiful. Dark skins are more prone to hyperpigmentation, while light skin is not. There's a host of issues that accompany all skin types and tones, so it's really a give and take.

But I do see how fair skin is prized. I'm always complimented on my fair shade, and I often feel offended by it.
I guess I've got the opposite problem lol

I guess its a matter of personal preference. Some people like fairer skin and some darker. Both dark/light skinned people can be very very attractive... so to say white is beautiful and dark isnt is simply untrue. 'Some' darker girls can be absoultely stunning and same goes for 'some' lighter skinned girls. I tend to not be attracted to blondes much... darker hair n eyes and an olive skin (which is fair, but not white white) is simply amazing. Thats just me.

I agree with the thread starter that in our society gori chamri is unfairly given preference over darker skin.
