She sat there crying on the bed. Tears from her eyes rolled down her cheeks, washing away the make-up, making white streaks wherever they passed, but even then she looked beautiful. She sat and waited for her husband to come into the room. An hour passed by and there was no sign of him. She got up from her bed and stared at here image in the dressing table mirror.
"Is there something lacking in me?" she asked herself.
There wasn’t anything lacking in her. She was just another traditional bride dressed in red, consisting of a red shirt that came a little down the waist and a red "Gharara" embroided with golden and silver threads. The smell of perfume made her even more attractive and garlands in her wrists suited her outfit completely. She looked up towards the door. It was still locked. She looked at her bed covered with a white bed sheet, surrounded by strings of artificial flowers in red and white. Everything was there, except her groom.
She sat on the bed again and remembered the event just hours ago, her marriage, the most sacred bonding in family life. She pictured the marriage sermon being read, the signing of the form that bound her groom and herself into one, the greetings she had heard and received. She remembered her friends sitting around her and teasing her until she was red. She shied even as she recalled what her friends had said.
She leaned against the pillow. "What would the dinner have been like?" She thought.
Her sister had told her that it was grand. She herself had enjoyed the "Korma" and "Biryani". She had not tasted the Kababs for she had never liked them but had gladly eaten the sweet dish made from apricots. Her dearest friend had then redone her lipstick and make-up. She remembered the laughter and then the silence at the movie making with her groom; the long line of the relatives and friends waiting to have their movie made with the blessed pair.
She eased herself on the bed. To relieve her from cramps due to constant sitting. Her "Rukhsati" had been the greatest event of her life. She was paraded down from the stage to her groom’s car, a shiny black Toyota Corolla decorated with roses in the traditional style, a Quran held above her head by her father, a sign that she was being sent to her permanent home under the protection of the Holy Book. She sat beside him all the way to the house and was then taken to her room by her mother-in-law and other female relatives; her groom being supposed to come a while later.
She was now fast asleep; sleeping with her face towards the door, a clear expression on her face that she was waiting for him persisted on her face. She dreamt of him, the time they had spent together before marriage, since college, the day when they had first met, how they had fallen in love with each other, the day he had proposed to her, the day his parents had come to see her, the day when the date of her marriage ceremony had been announced and then she dreamt again about her marriage. Suddenly everything started seeming red and blurred. She felt uneasy and tried to open her eyes, but couldn’t. The dream had caught her.
The scene changed. She felt as if someone was crying and then many voices joined it. The voices seemed to grow louder and louder. The door opened and someone entered in. She felt as if someone was waking her up. She woke up suddenly thinking it to be her groom, but it was her sister-in-law dressed in black.
She told her that her groom, her love, her partner, the long desired for was dead. Dead! The words struck her like a hammer on the head. Her blood froze. Her father-in-law had a minor heart attack when she had been taken to her room, and her groom had taken him to the hospital. On his way back, he was another dead man in the streets of Karachi, killed by the firing of unknown men who would never be caught.
She was not listening to anything that was being explained. Dead, death was the only thing she could understand. She sat on the bed like a dormant volcano, looking at the red, the red walls, the red dress, the red flowers and now the red blood. Her emotions burst up like a volcano and she ran out of her room, wailing to embrace her love as a groom for the first and the last time.

....from that day on her inlaws blaimed her, & told her every min of her life, she was the "manhoos jis ke is ghar mein kadam rakhtey hi us ghar ka charag bujh gaya"

While rest of the world was busy mating I was Moderating Cafe and lost my jawani.
