After the controversy over racial discrimination, Coca-Cola is facing
another public storm for an offence it may not even be aware of.
Muslim religious leaders and clerics in Lucknow have issued a fatwa
against Coke, asking Muslims in the country and across the world to
boycott the fizzy drink as they are “certain” that the words Coca-Cola
when held against a mirror reads “No Muhammad No Mecca” in Arabic.

An enraged Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, religious head of the Shias, said: “It
is blasphemy. We will ask Muslims in the country and throughout the
world to boycott the product until the company withdraws the offending
words.”

“This allegation is baseless. We have had this logo since the last 75
years. It doesn’t read like that in Arabic,’’ said Coke spokesman Irfan
Khan from Mumbai.

Khan was, however, worried that the controversy might take a serious
turn because of the involvement of religious leaders.

The maulana said he would ask all practising Muslims to spread the
message about the “highly offending” logo.

Corroborating the maulana’s stand, S.R. Azmi Nadvi, Arabic scholar and
principal of the renowned Nadwa College in Lucknow, said the words are
“against our religion”. “I have looked at it (the logo) and I am sure
that it is highly sacrilegious,’’ he added.

He said the matter would now be taken up with the Muslim Personal Law
Board and the Islamic World Arab League in Mecca.

...I used to wonder why the muslims around the world are in such a poor state.

These maulvis definitely have a hell lot of time at their disposal..the other explanation, 'they have taken money from the rival pepsi'...or maybe from Richard Branson...you know this guy was coming for his own brand of cola - the virgin cola, which so far he has not launched in US...although two yrs back he drove a tank in times square and blew up the coke sign created by fireworks into false flames: funny..maybe now he thought about a more forceful approach: maulvis..

I wonder what you were thinking when you posted what you did. Your comments were way out of line. Your post refers to the contents of coke and its jewish ownership (whatever). These two may be valid points if presented properly. Even the website you referred to provides a case for not drinking Coke due to alcohol content. This is a valid point worthy of discussion, but you just mixed apples and oranges and started criticizing members who presented their opinion on another point, namely, the logo of Coke.

To call other members as morons and loosers, just because they expressed their opinion speaks volumes about your own mannerism, or lack thereof. In any case this post is about the Coca Cola logo and what it may mean when inverted, looked in the mirror and in Arabic.

Whether or not they drink coke or not is besides the point. For what you know, they may not even like Coke. This is not the discussion here. The topic is the fatwa by Lucknow ulema on the Coke logo. If you have anything worthwhile to add on this topic, you are welcome. If you just intend to pass insults on un-related topics, I am sure you can find better more suitable avenues to express your vocabulary.

I hope you will be more careful in future.

I can suggest a lotta things the maulana could do with that bottle (inverted or not) besides reading it off the mirror. But forget this!! Most maulana are idiots and their followers are even bigger idiots.

as for the COKE logo, there are million other words that you can invert or look from a mirror, or look from the top of a table while standing on one leg and find out that they mean something bad. these stupid molvis need to get a life.

Pristine said a lot of what I wanted to say, so I won't reepeat it. By the way, I believe the correct spelling is "moron".

I know there is a small amount of alcohol in Coca Cola. I know that in moderate doses, it alters the current state of my mind and is quite unhealthy when drunk to excess. I've known all of this for years, ever since I was a little kid.

I still drink coke. I also drink beer, wine, rum any many other alcoholic drinks. I do not get drunk. I do not let it alter my judgment (i.e I don't drink when I am flying, driving or exercising). I am still a productive member of our society.

Am I stil a non-muslim?

I really think that that is between me and God, don't you?

This is now straying beyond the topic that initialy started this discussion. Want to talk about alcohol in Coke? I suggest you stop preaching violence and start a new discussion... I'll be there.
