So I understand that the way we slaughter our meat is actually good for our health. But I was trying to explain it to my American neighbor but couldn't convey the message properly as to why it is beneficial.

      Please explain.

Why is zabiha meat good for your health...

Because if meat is labelled as zabiha, it means that the meat does not contain any other animal derivitives (like injected liquidised pork/animal fat to make it look fresher, as western meat sometimes does), it has been drained of all blood, and the animal, when it was alive, was not treated with any growth hormone.

There is prolly a lot more to it, but i think that's enough to get the message across to el yanko neighbour, in a succinct manner.

No its not the most painless way, in fact the other way around, its the only way to make sure that animals blood fully drains out of his body .. you ask me why .. because we slit just the throat and main artery and leave the backbone intact so body to brain connection is still on and body does not die before the whole blood drains out ..

O my ... I think I am switching to a vegetarian lifestyle after writing all this

      ^ You're such a pansy.

There are actually contra-studies to what you just said, about halaling meat being painful for the animal. If only i had the energy to find them.

      Oh well.

Ok so, not that I am promoting jhatka meat in any way, but if zabiha meat was indeed better from the perspective other than what has been told to us religiously, then muslims all over the world would be a healthier community no?-- which we are not. Just trying to look at a perspective. Please don't misunderstand.

actually that thing about growth hormones it is not right. All over the world zabiha meat treated with growth hormones is distributed.

I havent heard the word "pansy" in a long time Maroush...lol.

I think it has a lot to do with cleanliness and the way we actually zibah the animal is more humane...no?

The other day, my friend was telling me about how some select and upscale butcher houses actually get the animals drunk and massage the creature with special oil to make the meat better. That is cruel, IMO.

Another thing I thought of was...we are allowed to eat from the People of the Book, correct? How do we know the meat at Jewel, Dominick's, Meijer, etc is coming from a Christian or Jewish slaughter house? That is if you're particular about that sort of thing.

Our meat isnt preserved in any way, fresh and we dont make a production out of killing our animals. Its supposed to be as quick as possible. Thats what makes sense to me.

We are but it is not recommended by majority of scholars. Only some Arab scholars allow it but even then it's iffy. They say they eat at McDonald's cuz "people of the book".. yeah right. Had too many "fights" with these people in HS and College.. it's too easy to eat out then to control the nafs, that's how I see it.

Anyways, the islamic method of slaughtering the animal is the most hygienic and least painful. Hygienic cuz the blood is drained out (one major reason) and least painful cuz when you cut the arteries, the animals becomes unconsious. The movements you see after cutting the arteries is cuz the heart is still pumping (draining out blood). We don't need studies to prove this or that, cuz we know it's from Islam and we should stick with it.

Ps: Im no expert, what I posted is what I understood...

      its beneficial.
the animal is hung upside down, a deep cut is made on the neck .. whereby the main artery etc carrying blood frm the heart to the brain is cut while it takes sumtime for the heart to get the signal and so it keeps pumpin blood ... as the animal is hangin upside down n left in that position for sumtime most of the blood rushes out leaving the animal pretty much without blood.
i guess gettin rid of the blood part is beneficial to health. as blood carries most of the diseases.

i live at a farm house i neva buy meat frm market i always hav my own goats n chicken slaughtered n i make sure after the throat artery is cut skin n internal parts r removed and they keep hanging upside down for atleast 3-4 hrs 2 get rid of all blood . its v healthy.

Draining of blood through the jugular vein while animal is hung upside down is how its done in slughterhouse. So it is close to zabiha method as in both methods animal die of blood loss. However, in case of cattle, animal is stunned before slitting in order to minimize the pain. Some say that stunning casue blood clotage and thus it is not properly drained from the animal.
Muslim eat halal zabiha and jews Kosher because its in their religion and nothing else.

It may be because there are other factors impacting the health of Muslim people everywhere...not just meat. Like general diet, financial status (if they live in poor countries etc), etc.
