      Salam everyone!!
I was watching TV a couple of days ago when i came across this channel where Mrs. Zubaida Tariq was a guest and she gave this tip about weight loss AND this is not the first time i have heard her say this:

      She said:

Boil 1 tsp laal masoor daal in a litre of water till only 1 glass of it remains. Filter and drink.
And drink it for 40 days.

So, has anyone ever tried it? Did it actually shed some pounds? My mom says masoor daal is 'garam daal' as opposed to the 'cooler' moong daal!

If you drink any daal's soup for 40 days you will loose lots of weight.
This is the key to weight loss:
A normal human needs 1800 to 2200 calories in a day to perform at a normal activity level. If you consume less than 1800 calories worth of food , you can shed weight.
Also remember, to lose 1 pound of weight you have to burn 3500 calories.
Now you go do the math.
How do you know how many calories are there in something. For that there are thousands of websites.

So daal soup is all that you gonna eat these 40 days? No way in hell lolz.

Go for a healthier diet if you want to loose weight the right way and if you don't want to put all back on as soon as you start eating normal.

and btw, i did start drinking it and it has been a week. I haven't lost weight, however, i noticed something that is extremely worrying me...I'm losing a LOT of hair! This amount of hairloss has never occured to me. I am afraid to even pass my hands through the scalp as, literally, handful of broken hairs come out :'(
I can only come up with two reasons, two new things that have occured within a week. First i would like to blame this masoor daal, maybe this is causing the hairfall although i see no association :S and SECOND, it's been a week that i abruptly stopped using the famous 'Golden Pearl Cream', i had been using it for a month...i had the promised glowy flawless face, and i happened to read a thread about it a week ago where Gina was all about how awful it was. She scared the crap outta me!! I stopped using it. Maybe hairfall is a reaction to that!

I don't know what to do..

diet has a lot to do with hair. Once I went to Pakistan, and I got very sick. I stopped eating, and when I would eat, it was very little. When I came back to Canada, in a matter of weeks, my hair started to fall out like crazy. Everywhere I sat, when I got up, there would be clumps of hair left behind. I had really long hair at that time. So I went the hairdresser, and asked them to cut my hair. She cut it up to my shoulders, and I started taking vitamins. My hair loss stopped. So diet has a lot to do with your hair growth, and hair falling out.
There is a place you can touch a woman that will drive her crazy. Her heart!

If you want to stop your hair falling out, a diet high in protein and iron is good for you. Daal has a lot of protein! But obviously you have to have a balanced diet. And don't listen to Ms Tariq, if you do that for 40 days all you will lose if water weight and put it back on.

In order to loose one pound you need to burn 3500 calories from your body fat, so if you create a deficit of 500 calories a day you will lose a pound in a week. The best way to create a deficit of 500 calories a day is to exercise and and reduce your calorie intake but keep your diet balanced!

Well it's not too much, say if you cut 300 calories out of your diet that's like a chocolate bar, or a bag of peanuts and fill up on things like steamed veges instead and exercise to burn 200 calories, so go running or skipping w/e exercise suits you you've created a deficit of 500!

The 500 deficit is only if you want to lose a pound a week and is purely mathmatical in reality some people lose a lot more some lose less depending on metabolisms. You can reduce the deficit if you want slower weight loss
