Being vegetarian is not being healthy, by deafult ..

I know many hindu couples who are "Vegetarians" but have high cholestrol or over weight or what not

Mind it, eating Samosas, Pakoras, Chaat, Chips, Poori halwaa, paraathay, kheer, zardaa and all this still qualifies you as vegetarian ,, but that is worst than eating baked fish or grilled chicken breast

^Great point. Meat is not the ONLY source of fat, gaining weight, etc, you have to be careful whether you're a vegan or not.

There are certain nutrients are only found in meats so vegetarians have to supplement to gain those by taking vitamins. That is if you go deep into nutrition and all that.

I think everything should be taken in fine balance.

And I don't think you are "healthy" necessarily if you are vegetarian alone.

The vegetarian diet of most Indians is something Pakistanis should not deride but rather respect. When environmental analysts compare the development challenges of India versus China, they often note India has an advantage over China in terms of consumption behaviour since more than 30 percent of the country’s population is vegetarian and more than 70 percent consists of very infrequent meat-eaters.

Meat production, particularly beef, is several-fold more water-intensive. China’s population is far more carnivorous and with affluence increasing, demand on meat consumption is also likely to increase. Water will be the most significant limiting resource for much of Asia in coming decades. It is no wonder then that the Chinese government is also considering a campaign to go back to more traditional Chinese diets that were dominated by green vegetables but were subsumed by the carnal impulse of development.

Sleepy

I'm a vegetarian.. I get my protein from lentils and beans. I have a glass of skimmed milk everyday too.

When my haemoglobin is low and I feel tired I add iron rich food to my diet.. I make spinach lentil soup, beetroot soup and have a couple of dates and apple juice.

Some days are a complete waste of make-up!

I was vegematarian for 6 months when i was a teenager (not because i was an animal lover, i'm far from it)... but then gave in because my grandpa's sunday roasts became too tempting

If you are/contemplating becoming a veggie, then it's vital that you take additional vitamins and minerals to make up for the loss of nutrients that you can get from meat/dairy....

Good luck, and we'll see you back on the meat wagon pretty soon

I am a vegetarian, somewhat like them lacto-ovo vegatrians, I am a lacto-ovo-chickeno-beefo-lambo-fisho-shrimpo-ducko-turkeyo vegetarian.

Most of what I eat is vegetarian- aloo gosht, timatar gosht, bhindi gosht, matar qeema etc

I dont deride indian food because its vegetarian, but because I dont like how it tastes
you know what else I really deride, people plagiarising and not giving credit to original author.

Unless you are professor Saleem Ali of Uni of Vermont, in which case I take my words back, and nice to meet you professor saab. Can i get a signed copy of your forthcoming book “Treasures of the Earth: Need, Greed and a Sustainable Future”

Yup I agree, Make sure there is some other reason involved in that killing like revenge or because you were target practicing and decided to do it on a goat.

Killing them just for eating is not good
