I have one, my left eye is quite lazy and have had it since i was a kid.
My parents were told the same gibberish that it'll get worse when I get old but it hasnt.
Only when Im very tired and am unable to focus it kinda goes roaming on its own, other than that its okay.
The best part is i can scare people with it

Eye exercise for potential lazy eye
Hold a pencil with your arm outstretched in front of you at eye level. Focus on the tip. Slowly bring it closer to your nose. Hold it a the point when you start seeing double. Repeat few times. Apparently this will bring the point where you start seeing double a lot closer to the nose.

There is no cure for lazy eye. However some doctors might suggest going for a little operation on the eye when the person is at least 18 or over. But they will tell you that after the operation the patient will get better but (nobody can say how much time as it could be different for everyone) in some time the problem might come back.
I think your family should take one very important thing into consideration at this time as y our sister enters teenage, to support and help her deal with it especially because she's a girl and this might affect her self-confidence if she's not given the right support from elders.
