I think cold turkey is the best way. Why tease yourself with having cigs around you and smoking it once a day...twice a day???

it's all about mind over matter....if you REALLY wanna quit you can do it. I have seen it happen many times...so nothing is impossible.

Ty for the detailed tips Fairy tale very much appreciated.

for those who want me to go cold turkey, its not advisable at all. Some people can do it, but then some people never smoke to begin with.

I get very irritable in the first two-three weeks afterwards, so Im looking for something soothing, or an alternate source of nicotine like gum, etc.

Well.. i tried that... reducing... doesn't work.

You just have to decide one day.. i wont smoke anymore. It takes about 5 weeks... difficult but once those are over, its all well.

Bored

Koozager my friend- my father stopped cold turkey style when he found out her had a life threatening disease- he did it alhamdolilah- other wise you need to wean yourself off them gradually as advised by many guppies- also increase your physical exercise- find a new hobby, my " possible" suggestions are: buy a whole years supply of air freshners, and when u feel like having a fag- put some money in a kitty and then collect after a few months and donate to charity or alternatively you could eat food instead???, get a new flatmate- maybe a non smoker or even a female non smoker.....

That's because your mind hasn't accepted it and you're still looking for ways out. Like I said, my hubby and dad both quit cold turkey. All other people who've been trying various ways are still trying...for like 10 years

Coldturkey

Before we got married, i told my husband to quit smoking, so he went cold turkey.... and as you need another vice, he took up cooking... definitely worked for me...

Exercising... way to go! Keep it up

Cold Turkey it is. I have seen people chew gum and eat saunf when they feel the urge to smoke.. apparently it works.

1- First of all prepare yourself and make your mind that YOU MUST NEED TO QUIT SMOKING.

2- Tell everyone around you i.e family, friends, colleagues, even neighbors etc that you are trying to quit smoking. This is a way you will get support from all around and 2ndly whenever you want to smoke, they will remind you, " oye I thought u were quiting." So this works as reminder.

3- Reduce the number of cigs you smoke everyday. If you smoke 10 in a day, gradually decrease the number, at least one cig less each week. Keep a calender in your bedroom with bold n big numbers on it. Mark each day and number of cig u smoked on that day. Then total the number of cig each week u smoked. See if you are successful in reducing that number with every passing week.

4- You can decide at the day start, how many cigs you are gonna smoke that day. Once you decide it, stick to it, no matter how difficult its for you to control.

5- Keep a small scissors with you all the time. Whenever you want to lit a cig, cut off a small piece from the top end, like half inch of it. This will reduce the daily amount of smoke you are taking in, and ofcourse the nicotine intake.

6- Switch brands. Switch to the one you do not like.

7- Whenever you feel the urge to smoke, get yourself busy with something. Anything like start listening to music , or start cooking, go n wash the bathroom sink, clean the kitchen or your room, start folding the washed clothes, take shower, recite Quranic surahs, just anything that can divert your attention for a few mins. Its just few moments they r difficult and once you over come that period, you are out of it and all is good . Take juice or tea after that.

8- If you are person who buys packs in bulk, like 5-6 at a time so you do not have to rush to shop when you need it. Stop doing that immediately. Buy just one pack n wait until it finishes.

9- Go out for walk and inhale fresh air. May be just for few mins. As i said divert your mind. Coz its all in your mind.

10- Sometimes when you are going out to a place thats on a short distance, try forgetting the cigs back at home deliberately. And see if you can travel without cigs in your pocket. Challenge urself by trying this. Man can be destroyed but not defeated. Be a Man and do not lean down infront of a desire thats only taking you closer to death.

11-Try not to smoke on weekends. Keep a busy schedule for urself on off days. Once you say you wont smoke on weekends, DO NOT SMOKE. You will not die without it.

12-Drink lots of water n juices.

13-If you are married and have kids, think about them. You do not live only for yourself, you have other ppl linked with you. They can be parents and siblings too.

14- and yes talk to ppl who were successful quiting on it. Read articles that tells how dangerous smoking is for your health.

My sis is a doctor and studying Surgery atm. She told me that she has seen a lot of blood and bodies which were totally smashed/crushed in accidents etc. She is getting used to them and do not feel much now when she gets to deal with such cases in Emergency dept. But still the only patients that makes her feel bad and she really feels pity for them are the smokers. They are in terrible conditions when their lungs fail to accept any more smoke. She told me that for them she wishes a sooner death so they can get out of that misery instead of dying every day, each min.

Fayax...... above is for you too. And you are taking it seriously from me this time. QUIT SMOKING ASAP. Start it from NOW. I am going to put a calender for you and you are going to mark each day as I stated in point 3.

Wish you both best of luck.

Good post!
