Sluggish

Hyperabsorbent tampons can cause the infection because their prolonged use enhances the bacterial growth. So it is better to use a normal one when your flow is not the heaviest so you dont have a soaked tampon in there for long.

and YES, you shouldnt wear them before your married. even if they dont break your hymen, come on, do we really need unmarried girls sticking it up there? i mean, ethically it doesnt sound right, does it?? i dont know, maybe its my mentality, i just dont like the idea of unmarried girls using them. i say itni maseebut kaya hai, just wait until your married to try them. why take a chance.
No I completely understand what shes saying.. I tried to use on once and it felt so awkward sticking it up there I kind of gave up.. But if my next period bothers me as much as the last one I'm gna give tampons another go.. but im 18 i dont wnaa wait like 5 YEARS with this discomfort.. padss are soo GROSS

Exactly, each to their own.

I really can't understand why so many are anti-tampon for unmarried girls

When I was a child I used to hear all that rubbish about how a girl can lose her 'virginity' (which in Islamic terms is only possible thru intercourse/sexual penetration) but didn't think people actually had these attitudes anymore. Like iggle pointed out, horseriding, sports, I think even riding a bike can tear a hymen but in Islamic terms the girl is of course still a virgin. Really wish ppl would stop all this 'symbolic' rubbish, as if making a mess on someone's bedsheets on ur wedding night is the be all and end all of life..

HOLD ON Horseriding???? I used to practise horseriding for YEARS! OMG!

No one told me it could... :/

OK but what if it gets stuck inside for some reason and won't come out? Then what to do?

I even heard that kunwaris shouldn't go to the gynecologist, because something could "break" if they examine you...

I think the reason she's saying for unmarried girls to avoid it since your hymen CAN break is because not EVERYONE ends up with an open minded husband who wouldn't care and will believe the explanation. There are many weird ones who will make a big deal and that's exactly why so many of those procedures exist that now can fix your broken hymen for you.

Choose your battles wisely.

Thank you for posting this link, Waleeja. The obsession with bleeding is ridiculous; when I lived in the Middle East I felt like everyone was obsessed with it. Girls lived in fear of their reputation while guys didn't have to worry about 'proof' of their purity on their wedding night and were out chasing foreign girls, prostitutes, anyone they thought they could get some action from. It was so dysfunctional. The Ask Imam link doesn't mention that some women (a pretty decent percentage, actually) are born with no hymen or very little hymen, so there's nothing to break in the first place, whether from horseback riding, husband, etc. There have been a few very well-publicized cases in the Middle East of girls killed after their wedding night because of lack of bleeding, even though post-mortem examination showed them to be virgins.

Re: tampons, I wasn't able to use them when I was unmarried because of the discomfort, but as others have mentioned, many girls have no problem, it's just up to your individual physique. Post-marriage, I've found them to be the most comfortable solution---when properly inserted you do NOT feel them. You also do not have to worry about 'losing' them----they have a string that stays well on the outside and you use this to pull it out. As for clots, they are not absorbed into the tampon but they do stick to it and will come out when you remove it. Your body is extremely efficient at eliminating anything that exits your uterus---it doesn't need extra help and whatever kind of 'packing' you use down there won't change the elimination process, so don't worry about that.

Hope that wasn't too graphic for GS.

Definitely go for something that has an applicator----not OB! Many girls don't feel comfortable applying it themselves, and that's especially true if you're new to tampons.

I personally prefer cardboard applicators to all these new-fangled plastic applicator things. I usually end up buying a classic Tampax variety pack.

Spend a few extra cents for a well-known name brand, not the generic stuff---you want to make sure the materials being used are really high quality as some of the very cheaply-produced tampons have been linked with higher incidence of toxic shock syndrome (which is extremely rare and can be effectively avoided by changing every 6 hours and not using an absorbency level that is higher than what you actually need that day.)

If your period varies a lot in heaviness from day to day, you might want to buy a variety pack that contains different absorbencies (light, medium, heavy.) If your periods never get too heavy, you might just want to get a pack of medium absorbency, then buy a pack of pantiliners to wear on your light days instead.

If you have any other questions you don't want to ask in the forum, feel free to PM me.

Good luck!

thanks so much NYCGori! this answered all of my questions. i was actually aiming towards buying OB brand cuz they looked like a really good brand..but your point about the applicator makes sense! im gonna go buy the tampax regular (cardboard) ones and see how these go....

She prob won't.

The whole bleeding thing is so dodgy, what with some girls not even having a hymen, some do and have noticeable bleeding, some only bleed a tiny tiny amount that she won't notice, some don't even bleed at all..

deeba its a general perception in eastern man's mind that his wife should bleed on the wedding nite..if she doesnt..n if the man is not decent enough to understand all hymen tearing logics how will a girl convince her man..maybe thaths the reason all aunties doesnt want young girls to use it they dont want girls to be in danger after their marriage..its nothing to do with islamic thinking so stop quoting islam here...so if someone doesnt want you to to do something its not bcoz of islam its maybe cultural boundries.

i have heard that there are rare cases of girls who broke their hymen due to sports activity or they are not born with it...men need to educate themselves over this issue, instead of wasting their time watching porn stuff..if they ll educate themselves..girls will have a easier, healthier n fearless life.

Deeba was so write on what she wrote.

That's why you don't marry a "jaahil" man in this age of time. Only aunties who wouldn't want their daughters to use a tampon thinking girls might be in "danger" after getting married would be considered "Jaahil" as well. No disrespect intended.

Our culture has a lot of bad things in it. Especially for the "aurat zaat" . That doesn't mean we have to go with it.

As far as the hymen breaking part is considered. Its not that rear & you don't have to be actively involved in sports for that.

Now answering the original question. Pads all the way. My friend who is a nurse once told me that a girl came into ER because she had an overfilled tampon stuck inside her. Now THAT's scary.
