-drink loads of water at sehri and start with water at iftar. i heard sumone say that its good to drink 2-3 glasses of water before starting breakfat as it helps in weight loss and we can do the same at iftar time.

-try not to put sugar in ur fruit chaat. i put fresh orange juice and lemon juice and its equally sweet widout the sugar.

-have dahi baray without sugar.i make my dahi with salt and sum chat masala. cutting down an average of 1 tsp sugar from the fruit chat and daray baray adds up to 30 tsps of sugar per month!

-avoid fried foods like pakoray n samosas but if u cant, then just have a very little amount to satisfy urself.

-fill up on juices if possible. apple juice, orange juice, carrot juice etc. make healthy choices as well. have a banana and sum low fat milk instead of parathas and eggs at sehri!

-avoid drinking loads of water after sehri, iftar and dinner. its better to drink water before starting a meal. give a 30 minute gap between food n water.

-try n exercise a little after iftar. walking may help as well as doing sum house work.

- dun sleep soon after dinner. give a 2 hour gap between dinner and bedtime.

hope this helps you and u lose weight too!

I agree......but don't overdo the fruit chaat and dahi baray. Moderation is key.

Substitute juice and soda with water. Juice and soda contain a lot of sugar. Drink plenty of water. Low fat milk assists in weight loss. Try green tea. If you don't like the taste........try green tea that's naturally flavored with fruit.

After breaking fast.......keep yourself hydrated......and do some exercise (jogging, brisk walking, jump roping, butterfly crunches, lifting weights). Your muscles need to hydrated before working out.

you lose weight because you're not eating for 15 hours- it doesn't really matter what you eat at sehri or iftar, i would think, given how long you spend not eating.
besides, i just don't want fried foods for either sehri or iftar because its just too much first thing in the morning and for the meal right after not eating for so long.
i've lost weight too but this is just water weight- it'll come back once you start eating 3 meals a day again.

^ True. Its the water loss which makes someone look as if the person has lost weight initially but later it becomes real.

Only way to lose weight during or outside Ramadan is to eat less.

Focus on fried stuff or carbohydrates (Rice, Potataoes, Bread etc.) to eliminate from meal.

Eat Veggies, Lentils, White Meat, baked fish.

Fruits can make one gain weight too since they slow the breakdown of fat or stored glucose in the body.

Most people gain weight in Ramadan since they eat extra during Sahoor or Iftaar.

Items to avoid:

Fruit Chaat, Pakoray, Yougurt, Khajla/Phainee, Parathay, Rooh Afza Drink with milk and Biryani.
All these items are so common in Ramadan.

While fasting do some easy exercises indoor to lose weight faster.

great tips! thanks for sharing these!

at sehri i eat porridge (without sugar) instead of paratas! a lot healthier. if you cant cut out the sugar then use honey, jam or some syrup etc and then slowly cut down.

Those who have body mass index (BMI) over 25 and do wish to lose weight should avoid paratha or anything related.

A useful site for BMI calculation and weight loss is here.

Spot on! No matter how much weight one looses in Ramzan, its counter productive because even going 7-8 hours without eating anything is really bad for the metabolism, and the 'starvation' mode kicks in and the body starts storing fuel in the form of fat, and the metabolism becomes sluggish and as a net result, a person would end up gaining more weight to begin with

Honestly, theres no way around it, healthy sustained weight loss that is permanent cannot be achieved in ramazan, with that large window of 'starvation'. The best way to lose weight is to eat in smaller but more frequent portions and thats impossible in ramzan. Every other technique, drinking water etc, is just damage control.

Second star to the right and straight on till morning

Yeehaw

Most important thing I have learned is to control. I had been over eating all year round, If I am not hungry I still find myself running to get food and eating /munching all the time. Since fasting all days so far alhamdulliah, I am able to control the hunger. Obviously I won't be starving myself after Ramadhan, but definitely have learned a good lesson here
I will be more careful with over eating.

take the samosas and the dhai bharay out, and you've lost the spirit of ramadan.... haha.

It's easy to do all that at home but during iftari at someone else's house when everyone is just muching down, it takes alot of will power just to eat the fruit chaat and bypass the rest
