Acupuncture

Has anyone ever used acupuncture as a form of pain relief? Especially for arthritis and other painful ailments?

My mother has been asked if she wants to incorporate acupuncture into her recovery programme/treatment and I am a bit worried about the effects and benefits of it.

I have researched it extensively but would appreciate if anyone who has experience of it, to share accordingly.

My mum has arthritis and she also had another problem with her wrist (which i dont remember) because of over working it. She went for acupuncture and it fixed her up nicely! i would say tell ur mum to go for it, i dont think theres anything risky with it altho the thought of needles in u is scary apparantly u dont feel them!

Risks don't worry me, I just don't want my mum to have to go through more pain if there isn't much chance of it working. However, I will take your advice/mum's experience on board.

A few years back I had back pain, so someone recommended Acupuncture to me.....honestly speaking I didn't notice much of a difference but mayb its different for arthritis.....I dont remember any pain from the treatment tho

but u have to be prepared to drink bitter herbal tea with real flowers inside which is a bit strange

yeah, I just got it done a month or so ago cuz of a shoulder problem. It worked for the time being but the problem remained. So now I'm going to a chiropractor who thinks I may need a small surgery from an orthopedic. So, I'd say if it's like something small arthritis pain and then yeah, try acupuncture, those hair-thin needles are said to relieve tension in the tendons, by your 3rd or 4th session you'll know if it's working or not.

I guess it works on an individual basis. Thus far I have read mixed reviews.

Gohan- Once again thanks for sharing your experience. The pain is quite severe so I don't know how well my mum will respond.

However, rather than seeing her in pain, we have booked an appointment to have her first treatment in 2 weeks inshallah. I hope it goes well and that the pain subsides as a result of it.
