I have heard that drinking warm water with honey first thing in the morning is very beneficial for the body. Does anyone else know about this?

i'd heard of warm water and lemon... that flushes your system out, and it also helps to dissolve fat.

      Great article on it:
"Every morning, or just about every morning, the first thing I do after waking up and using the bathroom (I guess you don’t need to know that part) is to make a honey + water drink. This may sound like an old wives tale or something your grandmother might have told you, but there is some serious truth behind the benefits of such a practice…I’m sure you’ll be surprised once you finish reading the information below.
First, how do you make the drink?
Simply add a teaspoon (or a tablespoon if you have a really sweet tooth) to a glass of natural mineral water (preferably room temperature) – which means NO tap water – that’s another subject that shall require an article within itself (stay tuned).
Stirring with a fork quickens the process – be patient now.
Then, open your mouth and consume the beverage http://thehealthblogger.com/wp-inclu.../icon_wink.gif
Ok, now for the science part:

Did you know that honey has been shown to be far superior to conventional antibiotics in treating infections and without the negative side effects associated with antibiotic use.
It is amazing that the bacteria-killing properties of honey increase two-fold when diluted with water. Maybe that explains why newly born bees are nourished with diluted honey.
Also, when honey is mixed with water, a chemical reaction takes place resulting in the creation of hydrogen peroxide, the most powerful natural antibiotic. Unlike the hydrogen peroxide purchased in the pharmacy, the one produced by the above mixture is natural and therefore protects itself from being associated with conventional man-made antibiotics and their negative effects.
It only takes approximately 7 minutes for the honey + water mixture to diffuse into the bloodstream – ready to fight the bad stuff!
Apparently Mr. Hippocrates (430BC approx.) used two different honey mixtures, sometimes mixing the honey with vinegar and sometimes with water. He found that the honey water solution was far superior in treating wounds, though he probably did not know why.
Remember remember, use organic, unpasteurised (unpasteruized for my American readers http://thehealthblogger.com/wp-inclu...icon_smile.gif ) and unfiltered honey – and to really be picky: try to source honey of locality, i.e. produced near to where you live (though this is not essential, it is very beneficial!)
So I guess you’ll be having a honey water beverage tomorrow morning?"

Lol yeah I could imagine the taste wouldn't be too great but hey if it really works then why not? Does it have to be done on a daily basis?

Its funny, I just started giving honey to my son each morning about a week ago. I also read about the anti-bacterial properties and he has been sick just about all winter. So I'm hoping that the honey will help him stay well now. I also read that it has a very soothing effect on the whole GI system - if there is soreness from reflux, if there are ulcers or IBS. It really seems to have a good effect on my son.

One thing I should mention, you should never give honey to an infant under the age of 1 year. Honey contains minute amounts of botulism spores. While not numerous enough to cause botulism in an older person, it can be dangerous for an infant.

Mamaof3, i am glad you mentioned this. I was wondering about this the other day. I know some people in Pak (not sure of other cultures) will feed a tad bit of honey to a new born baby as his/her first food (gurthi in urdu). How come its ok there, anyone know?

It really isnt ok, its just that people are generally unaware of it. When I told my SIL about it, she didnt beleive me, went on to give it to both her infants anyway. Its a small risk to be sure but not one I would take since it can be fatal. Heres a link:

I used to do this daily, not warm water though, just regular drinking water with honey. I didnt like it at first but after a while I got used to it. I really felt like it was CLEANING my system, it made me feel good. I read about it in a book about Prophetic medicine, so its something that no only health professionals today recommend but also something from our Prophet's teachings

Honey works wonders, I use it on my chapped lips and it fixes 'em in a few hours.
