Can I do that? I have frozen fish fillets before but the batter had egg in them & my mom ended up frying that fish which I never got the chance to eat anyways. So I kinda don't know if it was easy to fry or not or if the pieces ever broke.

I have 5 lbs of Tilapia that I defrosted only to find out I cannot make kababs out of the one half I was going to.

Thinking about marinating the whole 5 lbs & freezing half of it. Do you guys ever freeze marinated fish & if you do or did. Were the pieces okay while frying?

Yes I have done that many times, and they remain fine while frying,
I defrost them in the fridge overnight and the next day cook them.

Yeah true that you can't do anything with frozen fillets. You have to obviously defrost them. But that's with almost all sort of meat.

I just marinated fillets that were partially defrosted I guess. Not a good experience I tell ya. My hands were cold & burning because of the spices.

This is the marinade I used today. Recipe is not that hot in terms of spices. I am gonna make Bhagaar wale chawal (Zeera Rice), Zanzibari Chutney & salad with it.

      Zanzibari Machli

1 ½ lb fish (cut into pieces)
      Ύ teaspoon salt
      ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
      1 teaspoon red chili powder
      2 teaspoon garam masala powder
      1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
      5 tablespoon lemon juice

Other than this. Shan Lahori Machli masala is really good. You can add Chinese ingredients to make Chinese Fried Fish as well.

And for salan always make the masala first then & in a wide pan. Then add the fish & give it a "dum". That way it never breaks into pieces.

So is it okay to defrost frozen fish, coat it in marinade and freeze it again?

My OH loves fish-I think he could live on the stuff if I let him, however as I'm pregnant at the moment the spell of certain foods is making me queezy, so I thought if I have a good day, I could defrost a few packs of fish, marinade them and refreeze them that way he can actually attempt to cook them himself.

I would use fresh fish, however it seems so much more expensive than the frozen variety, plus I've been told not all supermarkets offer fish that is 100% fresh and hasn't been flash frozen before.
