The smell of onions and garlic are especially difficult to get off your hands. Just put your hands under cold running water WITHOUT rubbing them together, no soap, no nothing, just cool water for like 10 seconds. It's true!!

No it does not work. The only thing which works is that you should wear disposable gloves while handling , cutting , pealing , chopping onions and garlic.
The are dime a dozen in UK and US. I bought two boxes with 500 gloves in each for 10 dollars. They will last me forever. Food safety experts advise to use them while handling meat also.

Did not know about the stainless steel trick ... will try it next time

Another trick would be to use toothpaste instead of soap for hands. However, always use cold water, never warm.

I always use scented soap and never had any garlic or onion smell left in my hands.

Onion, ginger, garlic - I eat them raw! I love them.
