are indeed a God send. I don't think I can ever imagine life without one. Who can spare fifteen hours to cook these days? I want to know how those of you that don't use one, make do? I managed to blow ours up, well not literally, it was nothing fancy; it died quietly. So until I have another, I am wondering how long it will take for me to make something that usually takes 20 minutes with the cooker? I am not looking at six hours, am I? I think i'll camp in our kitchen today with a book and blanket, since it feels like I'll be there for a while.

cook chicken haaya cuz that's the only thing that doesn't take long without a pressure cooker and of course veggies

Any type of meat - you better have 3 hours to spare

I used to dread cooking until I got to learn how to work a pressure cooker. Cooking can be done within half hour now. It's faster than carry-out, delivery or dining-in. I have doubled my cooking days thanks to pc. Before, I would cook twice a week. Now , I cook four days a week. Ans I cook daal, vegetables and chicken in PC too. This way vegetables retain their nutritional value. Also, if you like those sticky rice sold at Chinese restaurants, it is very easy to make using a pressure cooker. I can provide the recipe if needed.

funguy your pressure cooker is broken. Half an hour is too long. Mine takes 15 minutes for beef and 10 minutes for chicken.

Mohtarma Anchal, half hour from the time I turn on the stove to dinner served. Not half hour in the cooker.

hayya guyya, wait till you meet the indoor electric grill. makes pressure cooking seem like the wait till eternity.

and the best part - no scrubbing the cooker. hmm.. about time they invented disposable plastic pressure cookers.

I cannot imagine life without pc's... i usually make dals and chicken in them. kabhi kabhi i make rice in the pc too, but i don't like it as it turns out sticky... not to mention all the starch that remains in it. i have one of those shallow PCs in which u can saute ... love to make fried bhindi and other fried stuff in it.

ek baar hamaara cooker explode huwa tha. ammi was making tomato soup that day. the ceiling looked an interesting mosaic of tomato and garlic my sister's terrified of PCs ever since, but that incident hasn't deterred me from using them. haan, when it starts bajafying seetiyaan, i stay as far away from it as possible, shukar hai, nothing bad has happened so far.

I've not used my pressure cooker in a long time. My old one got its rubber lining inside the lid broken so I bought a new one. But it was bigger size than the old one and I don't cook that much food. I usually use cooker for kaalay channay, palak gosht/aaloo, goat meat, and couple of other kinds of lentils. I used to make white channay in it too but then I got recipe for those from my Aunt which works best without the cooker (kinda chikkar cholay with only kaali mirch in it). One of these days I'm planning on making some kaalay channay. It's just that I keep forgetting to soak them in the morning.

Actually, you can find the rubber lining at most desi stores if not other places like walmart.

I am just so used to the cooker, it saves time and is definitely worth it. I would think sugghaR people would rely on them since it's quick and one can get twenty other things done in the time you'd spend watching over your pot if not using the pressure cooker. I like letting my chicken and veggies simmer though, unless I'm really in a rush. But the cooker definitely comes in handy with most daals and of course meats.
I couldn't do a day without it, whined and complained to abbu on the phone and he brought a new one last night so it's all good. Those of you that don't believe in it, need to try it out. It's nothing to be scared of, just use a good quality cooker and make sure it seals properly and the top part where the weight goes is secured down correctly and you'll be cutting down your cooking time by half if not more.
