How come some people make orangish biryani, i know its food coloring,, but its not brown at all.. its just white n orange..
so how do u make that orange biryani?

It is food colouring or saffron depending on your budget.

One way is to add the colour to the water when boiling the rice, which makes all the rice coloured. Or if you want a more multicoloured effect to your biryani then boil the rice as it is and layer it as usual. Then sprinkle some food colour mixed with a little milk over the top of the biryani randomly before steaming. That way you end up with rice that is white, brown and orange.

^ yeah that way works better. As in mix the colour with milk and then sprinkle it once you've done all the layering. You get a real nice mix of orange and white rice then

my mum makes 4 color biryaani...

she mixes some
- paalak paste to some rice after boiling to make them green
- beet root to some to make them red
- keeps some plain for white
- and kesar to some to make them look orangish...

the result is justtttttttttttt amazing... will take a pic and post when i am at home next... inshaAllah

hmm, thanks guys,, i think i'll try it with water instead of milk..
i went to this desi store and i found a 'tandoori coloring' as well.. hmmm.. but i dint buy it.. i just got orange n yellow..
i dont even know what they contain, just bought them...
