Biryani is banned, fried stuff we don' eat that much (fries and nuggets are not considered as 'fried junk' though). Khair, tau suggest something nice and tasty. I need to cover at least four neighbors per day, so it should be something you've tried and looks nice too. I've found a recipe of tandoori chicken, maybe I'll try that, what else?

Haleem Woman! Haleem! Always works wonders. Hope ur parosees ain't goray. Otherwise ;-) U'll be needing to give them fire ex-ting-gooshers too.
U want any desert ideas? Try making Pineapple supream. Layer of Cookies (any fav ones) then sprinkle with sweetened pineapple juice (from the can, add sugar), then top it with crushed pineapple, splash it with whipped cream evenly. Repeat the 3 layers again. U've got urself a yumalicious desert. Its finger licking good!
Try combination of salads. Here,
Chopped spring onions
Cubed Carrots
Cup of sweet corn (from the can works)
Add in shimla peper (diced)
hmm... some crushed pineapple
or tuna if not pineapple
for dressing, just salt, peper or whatever u like
Actually the greek salad is better. U want a proper recipie?

Haleem se yaad aya, kaRhi is also a good option and my fav dish, sad part is no one else in fam likes it. But my entire muhala loves mine so either haleem or kaRhi with rice and salad can be distributed.
DB the gora ones already got fruit from Ammi
I'd love a nice Greek salad recipe, please share. I'll also try pineapple supreme and see if my sister survives it
Dhaagh proper khana batao, dahi papRi mujhe akele khani paRe gi
Saadia, bindhi meiN ghost ya aur koi bhi meat nahiN dalo, please. Bhari hui bana lo and we can still be friends Make chicken biryani instead of saalan and you don't have to worry about rice dish. Make a kebab dish.
Btw, I tried you channe ki daal ka halwa, distributed in my muhala and sent rest to local mosque, everyone loved it

Sabah, Oh I forgat Ammi is making kebab, I 'll let her make a desert or a cake too long live ammi!
Bindi, well I dont think it will suit with rice, so its not a fix plan... biryani is not a bad idea, but then what I know it that most people prefere 'shorba' with their rice, so thats why I am cooking chicken salan seperately.
btw I love Karhi, I cant make Haleem, oh I so want one right now.
I'm glad that you like the halwa, its a recipe I got from ammi. Everyone loves it.
You have many neighbors, I wish I was yours. Khaney tu mazay mazay ke miltay.
Pineapple supream sounds yummy, will try it out.

We also have my phopo coming over today for iftar. This is what we are making for iftar and dinner:
iftar: keemay kay samosay, dahi baray, aloo ki patties with keema inside, pakoray, fruit chat (duhhh!) and maybe gulgulay.
dinner: we dont really eat much at dinner so just one salan and roti and shahi tukray for dessert. Everything is homemade.
I love children and old people. Its everyone in between I can't stand - Don Imus

Try Lamb cutlets. Its delicious. Buy the ones that are cut and prepared, wash and put spices on them. There is the shan masala especially for cutlets. Set aside for an hour and then put some oil in a wide pan and fry till both sides are brown and crispy, then put some water, maybe 1/4 of a glass and put a lid on, let it cook for a while, take away the lid, let the water dry out. So its done. Serve with rice and salad.

Yes, gulgulay is sweet fried dumplings. Its a middle eastern dessert made like teeni meeni mentioned. In Arabic its called, Luqmat-ul-Qadhi.
Recipe is as follows:
1 cup maida/white flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast
water as needed
Depending on what kind of yeast you have, mix it all up like a thick paste and leave to rise. After a few hours, drop spoonfuls in hot oil and fry. As soon as you take them out of the oil, drop them into the syrup or sheera you are gonna make. After they have been soaking for a while, take out and enjoy. These are an absolute favourites at our house
Also made some kalay chanay:
Recipe: chop some piyaz. Sautee it in oil with zeera, curry leaves and bay leaves. After the piyaz is colored, add shredded ginger, green chillies and tomato and bhoonify for a lil bit. You can also add ground anaardana if youlike for khatta pan. After the masala is done to your liking, add the preboiled kalay chanay and mix well. Before serving, add lemon juice and some fresh cilantro/dhania. Serve warm.
I dont like kharay huay tomatoes in anything except my eggs, thats why i add them before bhoonifying the masala. You can also add tomatoes after adding chanay. For this dish the piyaz doesnt have to be well done.

Sabah Baji, i was talking to my ammi the other day and i told her that i am sick of this same menu in every iftar party..why can't people be creative..why can't they make different things..all the last three iftars i attended had biryani and same cholay, dahi baray, pakora, samosa routine.
So, these are some other ideas..haray masalay wala dahi with potatoes, puff pastry with egg or potato or pasanday. Rolls with noodles inside..
You don't want pakoras..but i'll suggest something of a sort..incase any other guppies wants to give it a try...i fried khagina with lots of onion, green onion, tomatoes and green chillies..then i mixed them with pakora batter and fried them..another variation that i like is one with small pieces of bread..it comes out very crispy.
How about gola kabab or chapli kabab as snack bites..
hunter beef burger or sandwitch..or how about some baked or fried chapain..
You can have gujia..the sweat samosa thing with maida covering not the thin samosa covering..you can fill sugar, coconut and dry fruits in them.
For dinner: sabzi or matar pulao with nargisi koftay ka salan or yakni pulao..or moti pulao (moti pulao is with small koftiyaan)
For sweetdish: how about ras malai or baklawa.
Ira: we make gulgulay in our family too..but i never knew it came from middle eastern background..i assumed it was indian as my family background was from there..and we make gulgulay different we add sesame seeds and we mix sugar with the mixture..we don't dip them in sheera.

Have you tried Dhoaan walay kebab? Maybe they are called something else but I call em Dhoaan walay.
Marinate mince with the usual stuff, masalay and fresh diced dhania hari mirch, finely chopped onions then place the keema in a big pot and in the middle of the keema put a slice or 2 slices of the outer chilka of onion and place a burning hot coal over the onion chilka and drizzle some oil and shut the pot really really tight so the smoke stays in. Usually for that smokey flavour it takes around ten mins. Then make small kebabas out of qeema and bake em in the oven or on a grill.
I love em served with lots of salad and parathas. Or Lab bread.
