Hi everyone, im new to gupshup although i have been reading it for some time now. Im having guests over for aftari in a few days and have a lot of things to make so i wanted to make a few things a day or two in advance to save time on the day of the iftaari....my question is could i make fruit chaat the night before without it going bad? i was thinking of strawberry, honeydew, pears, apple, grapes and cantelope with mango juice.

thanks for your help

hey, cute nick and welcome to GS
fruit chaat is one thing you should make fresh, usually it gets too liquidy and discolored and the fruit becomes too soft if you make it from before

btw one tip to keep the cut up apple from getting red is to wash it with salt water...

A day old chaat is much more delicious than fresh chaat. I like my grapes, bananas and strawberries soaking in chaat juices. oooooh laaaa laaaaaaaaa.

I made the absolutely yummiest fruit chaat yesterday.

Empty half a can of del-monte's mixed fruit with the syrup. Pick out their grapes though cos they look ugly. Add lots of bananas, one can of mandarin oranges, a couple of kiwis, some ripe and some pomegranate, green and black grapes cut in to halves or quarters. Now add some canned chickpeas. I added one can. Squeeze half a lemon, sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Let it rest for a couple of hours and take out of the fridge atleast 20-30 mins before serving so it isn't too cold. If you wish grind a mango and strain it to seperate the hair-free pulp and pour that over the chaat too.

A day old chaat turns dark, esp bananas. I wouldn't recommend it.

A day old chaat tastes better, but presentation-wise, I wouldn't recommend it. It looks all mushy and dark...but oh so yum. Maybe it'll be ok if you're not adding bananas? I'm not sure.

make it fresh otherwise it will go all mushy and juicey on you. The cantaloupe can also cause it to go bad. Fruits like grapes, pomegranates, oranges, strawberries, kiwis you can cut a day in advance because they won't go bad by the next day.

FG the canned ingredients make it mushy without having to wait a whole day. It's not like you can really tell what it is.

Thanks for all the feedback guys....presentation is a big factor since im inviting guests over so i guess i'll make fresh chaat instead of a day earlier (i dont want it looking all discoloured). FF you just gave me a great idea,i think i'll try that-will let you know how the guests liked it.
