I have been told that to eat "PINIYA"(sweet stuff made out of ROTI. ghee, and dry fruit) . Drink Milk with Badam. (suppose to make you strong)
What has your dadi, nani, mom, or mother in law told you to have after giving birth to child?

yeah placenta comes out after the baby but what to eat after birth...
Fruits, veges, food high in calcium, lots of rest (when the baby sleeps - another anomoly),

piniyaaN n panjeeri are almost same ....piniyaaN r shaped into balls ....n panjeeri is just a dry mixture of those ingredients without shaping
ILOVEMYBABY... try to eat healthy stuff....panjeeri/pinniyaaN are good but in moderation .....in some cases physiological jaundice lasts longear for the baby when mums eat too much nuts ......(i've observed in my family at least)
i had a lot of panjeer first time (lived with inlaws n parents at that time).....but couldn't bother second n third time......n i don't think it made any big difference ....
like sajal i would ask about the news too

Its tradition in my family that the mother of the expecting mother makes her Piniyaa...i used to help my daddi make them, they'r like sand really, but i think only to be eaten in moderation
I understand, I just don't care.

Why is it that desis put so much preparation in to child birth, so much precautions and al thise piniyan/panjeer stuff and they cant get out of bed for ages, whereas the westerners are out of the house within a few days and back in shape quickly too.

FF....i think it has something to do with lifestyle here .....i was really pampered for my first time ...but that too wasn't more than a week.. .....last two times ....it was like i cooked n served the dinner went to labour ....came back n prepared breakfast
i didn't n frankly couldn't bother listening to all the instructions of 'rest is best' from back home

Femme, i take all the above mentioned stuff but i never stayed in bed..and i have been active since the day one of the birth of my son..i have been going out and doing all house chores as well..

I think it's nice to be pampered and take time off from working out and working for a lil bit. At the most a month. I dunno if ur talking about celebrities or normal ppl as well, but for the former, it's literally their job to look good. They can afford to leave their baby with a nanny for hours at a time while they work out for hours, and live on 900-calories a day. They make look hot and be the envy of many women but I think it's kinda wrong and disgusting actually to go thru such extremes. As for regular folk, i don't think many naturally get back into their pre-baby shape, at least not as quickly as celebs.

and then keep wondering why women look like hydrogen balloons after child birth - you have given birth to a human child not a 250 lb trucker. Eat normally whole foods - none of this ghee, roti etc.. youll be fine.

neither do you have to work out for hours or eat 900 calories to look good. Its also not wrong and disgusting to go to extremes - most people dont come close to it. If you are overweight before childbirth you probably will be rest of your life. Most overweight mothers I know are just lazy and eat like a horse - no control whatsoever eating anything and everything in sight.

When you leave your just born child for hours nad hours with a nanny or some other stranger so you can go work out and eat almost nothing in order to look good for some movie premiere in a week, then yes that is extreme and it's disgusting. I think it's a sign of very distorted priorities, valuing your looks over your child. It is important to look good and not become a cow but some of the things I hear about are just insane. And plus, I think if u have young children ur gonna be running around like crazy anyway, isn't that enuff of a work out

dad was telling us how this IS possible.

......tell me about it - its all desi rotten thinking here childbirth = hydrogen balloon for the rest of your life. Desis are lazy thats it just plain lazy - take a look in the other lifestyles section where all the ladies in their 20s are complaining of body, knee, back, leg and god knows what other pains.
I am going to go now and deadlift my life away.....
