I am not sure what i make is a trifle or not but it tastes yummy. heres how i make it:
Buy plain yellow cake from the bakery or bake one at home. Slice into fingers or slices as thick as sliced bread from your supermarket. Line into a rectangular/square pan.
Make your favourite jello flavor according to the directions on the packet. Pour on top of the cake and let it cool until the jello sets.
Make custard according to the directions on the packet. When its thick enough, add canned fruit cocktail (make sure you drain it first). Pour on top of the cake and jello. Cool in the refrigerator. garnish with whipped cream before serving.
Some folks like fresh fruit in their custard. I dont since fresh fruit makes ur custard runny.
I love children and old people. Its everyone in between I can't stand - Don Imus

I make my trifle exactly like, Ira. Just make sure you don't pour boiling hot jello over your cake. Let it cool first and then pour.
Good Luck!

I have a question ira.
I usually use pound cake/marble pound cake.
What's the difference in using yellow cake if any?
